Exactly - that's why I thought it'd be a good idea, as Corrie used to go on ITV2 at 7.30 with ITV1 showing at 9.45.
They should have rested Emmers, Corrie or both for the tournament though. When Crossroads went off in 2002 they did a big one-hour cliffhanger episode. Seven do this with Home & Away when the Olympics go on in Oz.
Having Emmerdale at 10pm does seem a little odd - however ratings are really falling with the good weather, so it could work well. On Friday it only got 5.9m - its lowest for a long time.
It's just not right Big Brother being on before Emmerdale!
I suppose though none of it is as bad as This Morning being moved to the afternoons last time around!
What are the rules surrounding news during this time. The national news will still get a 30 minute programme most days, but regional news, certainly on the BBC, is cut to just 5-10 minute bulletins.
It is quite strange how they've divided up games. Most days when there are games at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm one broadcaster shows the 2pm game, with the other two shown by the other. I'd have expected it to be split 2pm/8pm with the 5pm game on the other channel, leaving a bit more flexibility.

The soaps always blame it on the weather when the ratings fall, nothing to do with the fact Emmerdale is boring then.
Ive said this many times but the soaps should be on 3 times a week which means when there are events such as the World Cup it would be easier to fit in 3 episodes than 5 or 6 a week. Id probabaly still be watching Emmerdale if it was on 3 episodes a week so it has lost me as a viewer as it is so watered down and boring because its on too much.

The regional news on ITV is still managing a full 30 minutes all throughout the world cup, although this includes some editions at 4pm
At least it spices things up a bit, people are always doing those fantasy schedules with programmes moved all over the place, now ITV have actually done it, they don't like change!

On Thursday 15th June it isnt, Radio Times website has it scheduled between 4.00pm-4.15pm. Thats because ITV1 are showing 3 matches that day, which means from 12.30pm until midnight they are showing almost nothing except news and football!

I agree,I won't be watching any soaps in the next two weeks so a rest would do me fine,Ratings will be bad Corrie And EE have slipped from 10 to just about 7 million

Well it's actually so they can provide 45 minutes worth of build up for the England game
And you just know that in England about 10 mins of the 15 mins regional news will be dedicated to talking about the England match anyway!
Dropping soaps during the World Cup would cause anger amongst non-football fans, some who already are complaining. If Corrie stopped for a month the ITV Duty Office would need to have staff on overtime!
Why not have a 2 week break for all the soaps in the last 2 weeks of August, we wont lose track or that, have a big finale, and pick up where you left of, Neighbours do it fine, they dont do day by day usualy - its normally those in one episode wont appear until 3rd episode, then 5th.....if you get what i mean
I've always said soaps should take a break for major sporting events - or at least skip episodes where they clash - but unfortunately they are not brave enough!
Considering that roughly BBC and ITV will be showing the same amount of matches in peak time, I'm sure ITV could organise their peak time schedule quite simply by just airing the soaps on days there are no matches, with the odd double-episode / hour-long edition to keep up!
Is Emmerdale still on six nights a week during the WC, or has it been cut down?
P.S. Loving the Guardiuan ad with the footballers "training"!
Sky Sports are devoting a lot to the World Cup over the coming weeks, taking into account that they are not showing any games - Kelly Dalglish and David Jones have flown out to a top studio in Berlin to give Sky Sports News viewers all of the developments with bulletins every day from 7am-8pm IIRC,starting from this Wednesday.

Quite surprising considering the fact that Sky Sports' only Unique Selling Point at the moment is every England Cricket match.
Though I remember during the last World Cup they had something called World Cup Report which was on SSN every hour at :00 and the normal Sky Sports News at :30 which worked well, so obviously they're doing the same thing again really. Plus I remember this was it was the first thing I saw on SSN when NTL added it.
