Interesting that Steve Rider has got the big Spain v France gig tonight, and Gabby was 'demoted' to Brazil v Ghana earlier today.

I thought Gabby and Jim Rosenthal would've shared today, considering Steve was in Montreal for the GP last weekend, and is in Indianapolis this coming weekend.

I wonder if Steve will get the Final as well? And looking further ahead, will we see him on Champions Tuesdays on ITV1?

Hardly news that Gabby has been demoted, and yes, pretty certain Steve will get the final. Guess Champions League is a possibility too.

David Pleat doesn't half talk rubbish sometimes. Three times this evening he's started saying something and totally forgotten what he's on about and had to be rescued by Clive. Beglin must be well annoyed he's behind the pecking order to this idiot!

Chances are they'll use both for the final; for instance put one pitchside.

Bizarrely the final is the only game in the whole tournament that kicks off at 7pm. I expect many people will assume the match is at 8pm, as per every other day of the tournament (including the third-place pay off the day before!) and could miss the first half. I know TV companies dont normally heavily advertise kick off times but I wonder if it might be worth the BBC and ITV drilling it into peoples heads to avoid embarassment, i.e. by mentioning it along with the programme start time on trails, repeated mentions in semi-finals etc.

With the exception of last time (for obvious reasons) the final has kicked off at 7pm UK time every final since 86 at least.

I didn't know that, thanks for that.

Its still an bizarre decision though when you think about it, I doubt I'm the only one unaware of this tradition and it is the only game at 7pm in the whole tournament. Surely it would have made sense to at least move the third place playoff to 7 as well.

7.00pm equates to 2000 CET, so I guess it is the best time for all of Europe. I may be wrong but I think the 1994 final from Pasadena started at either 8.00pm or 9.00pm.

The final of France 98 kicked off at 8pm UK time - the Beeb's build-up started at 7pm and included a 15-minute edition of EastEnders. Wink

Just in case anyone is interested, TSN and Sportsnet are using this theme for their coverage in Canada.....

Alright then, every year since 86 except for 94, 98 and 02. That's nearly all! And 82 as well. Possibly 78 too.
