The Friday 8pm kick-off will be Italy v Switzerland/Ukraine. So I would guess ITV will take Germany v Argentina (Fri 4pm) and the Sat 8pm KO, which will potentially be Brazil v Spain/France.
Saturday afternoon could be a classic for the Beeb though, especially if there's big British interest at Wimbledon earlier in the afternoon. The schedule is as follows
12.10pm World Cup Focus
1.00pm Wimbledon Grandstand
3.00pm World Cup - England v Portugal
Do ITV get the 2nd and 3rd pick for the Quarter finals ? If so I'd expect them to take Germany vs Argentina and Brazil / Ghana vs Spain / France.
What happens in the semi's do they both show both games ? And who shows the 3rd place play off ?
Yes, ITV get the 2nd/3rd pick for the quarter-finals. ITV get first pick for the semi-finals, but if England reach the semis, both the BBC and ITV will show the England match, with ITV showing the other semi exclusively.
The 3rd place play-off is usually reserved for ITV, but I would expect the match to be shared if England are involved.
Someone at the BBC please replace Motson with Guy Mowbray! Mowbray and Champion are the best football commentators on TV, why are they all not highly regarded? It seems crazy.

Gary kindly kicked Mobray in the teeth at full time tonight by reminding him he's commentated on all the crappy draws, hehe. Is there still time to let Motson, McCarthy, Bright, Wright and Lawerenson all commentate on the Third-place play-off thus being unavailable for the final?
One thing which has puzzled me with the knock out stages is how the Germany games have all worked out to be at 4pm (and would have if they'd finished 2nd too!).
You'd think the host broadcaster would have some input and would want the fixtures so the host game played in the primetime slot!

couldn't agree more. the problem with sports commentators is that there are hierachies which are pretty difficult to alter unless one happens to retire. Hence why Champion jumped to ITV (only to find himself 3rd choice) because Motson wasn;t going anywhere; and Mowbray finds himself, what, fifth choice at the Beeb?
oh? i assumed Motson-Wilson-Pearce-Brotherton-Mowbray
More like Motson, Pearce, Wilson, Mowbray, Brotherton. Although the Pearce/Wilson order may change. We'll see who does the semi-finals apart from Motson.
The split of matches in the Quarter Finals has been finalised,
Germany v Argentina (Friday 1600) - ITV1
Italy v Ukraine (Friday 2000) - BBC1
England v Portugal (Saturday 1600) - BBC1
Brazil/Ghana v Spain/France (Saturday 2000) - ITV1
There's still no mention of who will show the 3rd place play off
The split of matches in the Quarter Finals has been finalised
The BBC and ITV have divvied up live coverage of the remaining World Cup fixtures, with the corporation taking the plum England v Portugal tie.
In a pre-arranged deal, BBC1 will broadcast live coverage of England's quarter-final, which kicks off at 4pm on Saturday.
ITV1 will take the 8pm fixture, featuring the winners of today's two matches, Brazil v Ghana and Spain v France.
On Friday, ITV1 has host nation Germany's quarter-final against Argentina, kicking off at 4pm, and BBC1 will be showing the 8pm game, Italy v Ukraine.
If England reach the semi-finals, both BBC1 and ITV1 will broadcast live coverage of the match, which kicks off at 8pm next Wednesday, July 5. ITV1 will carry live coverage of the other semi-final, which is scheduled for an 8pm kick-off next Tuesday.
However, if England lose to Portugal on Saturday, ITV will have first pick of the semis, with the BBC showing the other game.
Both broadcasters will show live coverage of the final, which kicks off at 7pm on Sunday July 9 in Berlin.
There's no mention of the 3rd place play off at all!
