At least the BBC provide analysis during half time! They've got a really good turnaround for putting e.g. tracing line for runs, offside shadings etc. and provide a top service.

ITV at half time is 70% adverts and a bit of innane chat. Admittedly the Budweiser ads are a million times better than Sam Allardyce!

The BBC completly over analyse things though. The breaks actually give the ITV shows better structure as after 45 minutes of watching the game people do leave their sofas for a few minutes to do whatever the need to do.

Have I gone nuts or did the presenter on the highlights on BBC1 just say: "You can see live coverage of that game over on ITV"? Shocked

I thought it was a given that, no matter how big the game on the other station, any station would only refer to their own highlights on later on in the night.

It's probably a more mature attitude than pretending the other station doesn't exist, but why give your competitor a free plug?

I think it was a sarcastic reference by Adrian Chiles to ITV having the rights to the meaningless Ivory Coast v Serbia & Montenegro match on Wednesday.
Of course he didn't mention that they'll only be showing that game on ITV4 whilst the main channel shows the intiguing Argentina v Holland match, but in any case it seemed a bit churlish - reminiscent of then-head-of-ITV Sport Brian Barwick's bragging prior to Euro 2000 that "while the BBC have Slovenia v Norway, we will have England v Germany".

I think the best commentators for each channel are Guy Mowbray for BBC and Peter Drury (although he's getting a bit annoying lately) or Jon Champion for ITV. Shame they're not used more.

This may be a daft question, but is the commentary for the highlights live or dubbed? What I mean is,do they take the commentator to the ground to do it or do they not bother? Obviously, for games shown live on the same channel they'll use that, but what about the other ones?

It's not really a daft question, because I think ITV do occasionally dub commentary on from a studio if they're only doing extremely brief highlights. Almost always though the BBC and ITV commentators will be in the stadium, even if they're not showing the game live. If you take a look here http://www.hostbroadcastservices.com/download.php then you can see the commentary positions for the different broadcasters and you'll notice both BBC and ITV positions.

UKTV is doing commentary from a studio I think.

For highlights they are, but not on live coverage - they have their own commentators, including Ron Atkinson. And I'm 99.99% certain they're in a studio, not in the stadium.

Isn't big fat Ron doing something from home involving the World Cup as well?

Some sort of video diary ?

Peter Drury and David Pleat really did an excellent job with the Italy v USA match tonight.
First up Pleat calls DaMarcus Beasley Marcus DaBeasley Laughing
Then with the score at 1-1 USA score and Drury shouts 'equaliser'! The only problem with that is it would of infact put them in the lead if it was allowed.
Then finally with the USA having only 8 outfield players on the pitch Pleat says theyre playing with a 4-3-2 formation Rolling Eyes ..adding up to 9 of course.

Yes, David Pleat is the worst co-commentator around. I can't understand why ITV persist with him. And they've hired another donkey in Southgate, as seen on the England match- I really hope he gets replaced for Tuesday night.

Does anyone know what TSN or Sportsnet are using as their World Cup music in Canada?
