I think anyone stating that DVB-T2 in Germany is 'all HD' when it has 540p services is being a bit disingenuous...

Tell that freenet TV... https://www.freenet.tv/programme

But then HD+, the satellite counterpart, pretends its a provider of free TV channels... http://www.freetva.tv/about/hdplus/

What's on TV advising extra coverage on Eurosport 3, 4 and 5 but only stating Virgin numbers for them (552-4).

RTÉ2 had shown a trailer for the Winter Olympics tonight but I can't see it online yet.

They are showing the opening ceremony with coverage beginning at 11am.

They haven’t typically been bothered with the Winter Olympics (to be fair, neither are the general public in a country which has no permanent ice rinks any more and gets snow once in a blue moon). Last time out in Sochi was the first time in my recollection they actually covered the games, but everything was on News Now. They showed the opening and closing ceremonies and showed a daily highlights show from OBS (and I gather it will be similar this time, but on RTÉ2 instead). iirc that on at least one occasion the highlights show didn’t have its English soundtrack.

Ah - but you can read that as "All top channels in HD" not "All channels in HD"... (You could argue QVC, HSE24 and Bibel TV aren't 'Top Channels' - and they also aren't in the Freenet subscription block, they're in the FTA block...)

Semantics I guess. They are providing Free TV in HD, but not for free. The channels that they provide are Free in SD... (So they could argue that they are proving 'Free TV' (i.e. services that are Free rather than pay-TV in SD) in HD. Sky could say the same about ITV2-4HD and All4HD, E4HD, More4HD, Film4HD etc.)

Well of course, extra channels for Virgin Media - the old Liberty Global mothership working well, there.

Suppose us plebs with Sky will just have to do with Eurosport 1 & 2 and the BBC?

Be interesting to see how they handle Sky... Fingers crossed they appear. Be nice not to have to watch the poor quality Eurosport Player streams.

I didn't think there was any connection between Liberty and Eurosport?

I saw a glimpse of the host broadcaster's graphics this evening. Fans of sans-serif bold italic small-caps are in for a treat again this year.

Makes a change, as it's usually Sky that gets channels that we don't.

Appeared for testing on 13e and 7e for Polish and Turkish packages in the last couple of days, so I hope it's only a matter of time before it's on 28.2e for Sky also.

I imagine for those countries that use 19.2e they will use the Eurosport 360 channels that already exist for Germany and Spain.

Yes, you are right.
I thought somewhere in the chain of ownership Discovery Networks and thus Eurosport were owned (in part or fully) by Liberty Global.
Quick check and it seems not.
