In Sweden I believe Kanal 9 (which is owned by Discovery and on all pay-TV outlets - including the DTT platform Boxer I think) is taking a lot of the main Winter Olympic events, with Eurosport Sweden taking more minor stuff. Think Kanal 12 is also taking stuff.

Watching the Eurosport 4 I can see, it seems to just be taking OBS feeds (not sure about commentary teams - but suspect world feed) and not putting any Eurosport presentation over the top other than a DOG (so no branded holding slate - just the OBS holding slate and then OBS countdown and titles)

Eurosport 3 is currently showing a static and silent OBS slide, showing the next transmission with local and UTC times.

Ooh, and a 30 second countdown with tone into the broadcast.

It's just been announced in German media outlets that the local versions of Eurosport 1 HD and TLC HD will be free on Astra 19.2°E during the Winter Olympics. They are usually part of the HD+ service. (SD is already free).

Existing HD+ users like myself will get access to Eurosport 2Xtra's Winter Olympic coverage.

Also interesting that UK Eurosport Player on the Eurosport website (not sure about Amazon Prime) doesn't have the Eurosport 3, 4 and 5 channels - I guess because they are just 'best of' OBS streams and they are available separately within the player?

Yep - and AIUI Eurosport HD on terrestrial DVB-T2, which is usually being the Freenet paywall (love it being called Free...) is also FTA for the duration? Though http://digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?liste=1&live=18&lang=en&mux=FREENET-TV-3 seems to suggest it's still encrypted as of this morning? (No resolution details or screen shots)

But neither do Eurosport 1 HD or TLC HD on Astra 19.2 - so it could be the switch hadn't/hasn't happened yet...

From reading posts from users in different countries and different platforms, even just within the UK, it seems Eurosport's Olympic strategy is a bit haphazard and unclear.

Encryption will be lifted between 9th and 25th February.

Midnight - BT have their wires crossed
Service dogged Eurosport 5 is going out on the channel designated for Eurosport 4.
Meanwhile we have a Globecast caption going out on the channel designated for Eurosport 5.
Eurosport 3 still showing the BT Barker.

Wires uncrossed now it seems.

I think that Eurosport is very autonomous within each territory - as much as anything as the rights situation and heritage in each territory being so different.

I've just sent a polite enquiry via the Eurosport website asking if Eurosport Olympics 3/4/5 will be on Sky, come the opening ceremony.
If I get something back off them - I'll report back here.

Well, I've just had a response back from Eurosport.

'I'm sorry to inform you that I cannot give you information on what Sky is offering'.

Follow by a link to the website, and the Eurosport player. Rolling Eyes

So that's cleared that up, then.
Eurosport can't tell me anything about their channels that I'd like to watch or on the platform I'd like to watch them on.

Opening Ceremony in France is on France 2 and Franceinfo. Not on FR Eurosport 1 or 2.

Those of us on cable have had to live without Sky Atlantic when half the world's been talking about Game Of Thrones for the last several years, I think Sky customers can cope without Eurosport 3-5.

I get that point, however this is my main gripe.

I pay for Eurosport via my monthly subs payment to Sky. Therefore, any additional channels Eurosport may wish to launch I should be able to automatically receive - unless its advertised as a premium addition to the normal subscription.

The fact that it's on two other UK platforms (so not part of a local arrangement with them selling on the 100+ hours of live coverage to the BBC) and seemingly excluding Sky, seems to indicate last year's hissy fit over carriage costs between Discovery Networks and Sky Uk doesn't appear to have been entirely forgotten.

I don't think Eurosport have rights in France do they? Like the BBC, France Televisions had their own deal with the IOC for 2018 and 2020.

The BBC did a deal with Discovery to swap 2022/2024 rights and 2018/2020 rights, but I don't think a similar deal has been made in France.
