There isn't a TV card that would pick up foreign channels? And you know what i'm going to say next, BBC World for example!

Oh you'd need a sat decoding card, but you'd still need the satellite dish on the side of your house pointing @ the correct satellite!

I think Gary was meaning on digital terrestrial. I don't know what the status of terrestrial broadcasting in France, Belgium or Holland, but Ireland will start next year. However, I doubt you would get anything from these countries, the signal surely wouldn't be powerful enough.

AFAIK The card mentioned is used to receive digital terrestrial television - the same system used by ONDigital. It is NOT a satellite system, and doesn't require a dish, or a BBC viewing card.

However the system does not have a Conditional Access Module or card slot, so can only receive un-encryped Free To Air channels. I think this means that it would not be possible to use this system to watch ITV Digital subscription channels, even if you subscribed.

The channels you can watch include all the BBC Digital Channels (One, Two, Choice, Knowledge, News 24 and sound only BBC Parliament), ITV1, ITV2, Channel4, Channel 5, plus the others mentioned above. It is not clear whether the card will offer MHEG compatibility to allow BBC Text and Teletext text service viewing.

Because the signal is received through a conventional aerial you receive most local programmes.

ITV 1 and BBC One should be received as on analogue - so you should get your local ITV1 and BBC1 schedule. (In the case of South East Today and Newsroom South East you will get full 16:9 local news!)

Unfortunately BBC Two is not broadcast on digital terrestrial with English regional variations. Instead you will get UK Today at 1525, and the BBC London local programmes on Thursday and Sunday when regional documentaries and parliament programmes are normally broadcast in England.

ON/ITV Digital currently carry no foreign channels in the way Sky does. There just isn't the capacity on the transmitters, nor the demand for the service so these channels are not supplied.
The likelihood that you'll be able to pick up foreign countries' digital signals is very slim - I'm living 20 miles from my local transmitter and can't receive good ITV Digital from it! Smile
