I noticed some of the regions did a recap on the national news at the end of their programmes, is this normally done by some, or was it to substitute for the 90 second update that would have aired around then?

In the South West, we had the generic CA and ident, then a 2 second view of the sustaining feed (This week on the BBC). Very sloppy.

I wonder if the sustaining feed came on a little early. It caught Look North out as well.

I think it caught out all regions that took the network ident, at least in audio.

Midlands Today always does it.

Oh, well they usually do! I didn't watch the end of it.

London usually summarise the day top stories. Something makes me think a summary is written by the network team and available to regions but I might be wrong. When the Six re-launched out of the glass era did we return to network for a summary? Perhaps that's where it stems from.

There is a whole department of the national newsroom called GNS which provides national news for Local Radio. Wouldn't be surprised if they provided a rip and headlines script for regional telly too.

Yeah, that's right - I think it was the 1999 rebrand (or certainly within that era) that the 6 was made into a more rounded hour-long show, with Huw Edwards appearing again at the end of the regional programme to recap the national headlines. I loved that when it was introduced.

I think it was when the One Show began that the national recap was dropped, and instead the regions did their own headline recap at the end of the bulletin?

And then after that the regions dropped the headline recap (or at least some did)

It always jarred at the end of Look North with the post weather/end of show banter. A regional news magazine should really end on a light note not reports of death and destruction somewhere in the world.

There was a time when these occasions were the only sightings of the BBC2 clock. From like 1998-2001 all you'd get was your one annual sighting of it when Tim Henman got the news shifted!
