I think lessons have been learnt from Monday to not make those kind of decisions too early. This match could well be over by 19:00.
They were lucky Monday's wasn't but then they had 20 minutes to fill. I've not looked to see if there are any implications for Scotland/Wales/NI this evening also. There were lots of complaints about EastEnders being delayed in Scotland.
I seem to remember that ultimately it is the BBC One controller's call and perhaps someone has had a word in their ear.
It's a tricky decision to make but I think the BBC has got it generally right tonight. Reputationally it would have looked bad to move the BBC News on such a big news day, and the game was always likely to be long enough to be able to be rejoined afterwards.
It's interesting (to me at least) to compare this with how RTE has basically designated RTE Two as the home of live sport, to the extent where the Wales game is on that channel tonight and as a result has a longer build-up than the ITV coverage. Viewers' habits and all that I suppose.
BBC timed their Wimbledon changeover terribly and people lost their s*** on Twitter!
The BBC have provoked the wrath of tennis fans by changing the channel of their coverage of Andy Murray’s Wimbledon semi-final against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the worst possible moment.

To be fair they should have switched BBC Two to Murray earlier and have BBC One viewers the 'switch to BBC Two' announcement either before the tie break or much earlier into it.
Simulcasting for a few minutes would have been much better than what we got.
