HI
What does everyone think of the BBC's Wimbedon Interactive

Does anyone know if 5 or 7 feeds are actually being broadcast?

Because when a match moves from BBC2 to BBC1, Multiscreen viewers don't get any interuption.

It will be interesting to see 5 courts all put their covers on silmultaniously when it rains!

any thoughts?

There are actually 5 full screen feeds running on a seperate transponder to all the other BBC services.

Hence, when the coverage changes channel, they just 'move' the 'press red' button to whatever channel it is needed. Therefore the coverage can remain and there is no interuption because the service is on a special transponder bought by the BBC.

BTW, they'll probably keep that transponder ready for other interactive services, as was mentioned in another thread. I remember there was talk of multi-screen Top of the Pops and information such as lyrics through an interactive service. I would like to see that! I actually tried it out at FutureWorld when it was in Birmingham, it was REALLY good!

But, back to the topic...

I must say I'm a fan. I like being able to choose the games and call up all the results. I think it could irritate folk not on digisat who can't watch all these games - in fact, I was talking to someone today who has OnD and is pretty pissed off about it.

I thought OnD had the service too?
Oh then again that wouldn't really work would it.
But didn't they advertise Wimbledon interactive for OnD last year?

OnD has a list of results but no feed AFAIK. This is simply for the reason it can't fit as many channels on - the same reason BBC Parliament is only audio against video on Sky.

There is not enough bandwidth ONdigital for the full service, so you just get an enhanced text / results service. I hate this time of year anyway, tennis is so boring and the BBC clear the decks for really dull coverage I went to see my Dad this afternoon and was so annoyed because he was watching the tennis and I wanted to watch the People Versus. Ok so I'm sad. Sad

I guess what I'm really saying is that tennis makes for really dull TV.

If it does rain, what am I saying, WHEN it rains, can someone put it on the five channel view thing (i'm only going on bits i've seen, i've not got sky...) and record them putting the covers on, I think it would be really funny.

Tennis is no good to watch on TV!

I prefer playing it, much more fun! Smile

Refereeing can also be fun, there were always lots of arguments at my school whenever we played tennis. Very Happy

I must admit, I quite like the interactive service for Wimbledon.

I'm not a tennis fan, but I thought I'd have a look. I'd like to know how they're managing to do it full-screen when Sky News and E4 can't.

i think sky news active and e4 bb2 interactive can go full screen if the channel provider wants them to. but the beeb are using there own transponder so dont share capacity so can take more room.
