Conclusion of Monfils - Simon being switched from Number 1 to Centre under the roof and lights, bad light stopped play on outside courts.
Connected Red Button.
Resumption 2120.
How did that work, presumably commentators needed to move court too, did they just put up a caption over a shot of centre Court while they waited for 2120?
Basically yes. Although the idea had been suggested in commentary it wasn't actually confirmed when play was suspended that the game would be moved, so they left it with a caption just advising play was suspended which ultimately switched to a shot of Centre Court filling up with the crowd and the match resuming a few minutes later.
And has been said there is no sense they are at Wimbledon considering how we have been used to all coverage coming from within the grounds. They could be miles away.
It's similar to how Channel 4 used a windowless studio during the Paralympics. They could have been in central London.
That's dumb. The budget will be on both BBC Two and the BBC News channel, right? No need for a simulcast when there's live sports to air.
Alternatively, the government could've just done the budget on a different week? I'm sure it doesn't usually clash with Wimbledon.
When deciding on the date of The Budget, the BBC's scheduling requirements don't usually come into consideration. The Budget doesn't usually* clash with Wimbledon, but there's not usually two Budgets in a year. The Budget is on both channels because it's always been on a main channel since the year dot because it's the Budget and it's important, and it's on the news channel because it's the news. Indeed you could argue the news should be longer because most people don't want to watch the whole speech, they just need to know what it means to them and so the news is better placed to report on it. Certainly the Budget is more important than losing twenty minutes, when its audience is at its smallest, out of ten hours of Wimbledon coverage. Which continues on the red button anyway.
* In 1997 there was also a Budget during Wimbledon and to allow them to cover both, Children's BBC had to be cancelled which, with the Hong Kong Handover the same week saw I think the first two occasions ever in the modern history of the BBC where they had to cancel kids' shows in the afternoon. And in the eighties and nineties it always used to clash with the Cheltenham Festival so the Beeb had to miss the last race or two to fit in at least some CBBC.
Heard commentary and the court sound, but issue resolved.
Due to a major crash in the tour de france today, the race organisers took the unusual step of neutralising and stopping todays stage. The reason, we heard, was that due to so many people being involved in the crash, 65km out from the finish, there would not be enough medical support on hand if another major incident occurred.
The upshot of this is, more so for ITV4, the possibility of overrunning coverage; ITV4 are scheduled to end their programme at 16:30, British Eurosport at 16:45. As I write at 15:31 there are 47km to go.
