Well the new format Wimbledon 2day was a waste of time as they haven't changed the format!

It's exactly the same except with everyone stood up round a table, Balding instead of Inverdale, and a line up of mostly mute people stood in the background. I was expecting a full on 'Today at the Games' style show, but as nothing has changed why bother changing the name!

Probably for the better it hasn't changed - I suspect it was about making it seem like Clare is fronting a new show, not Inverdale being axed from his old show. Talking of which, has he turned up on commentary today?

Only seen bits and pieces this evening but so much of the 6pm hour just seemed to be chat - I think they were waiting for Naomi Brody's game to start so had a bit of filler but it's so off-putting when you tune in and all you get is talk or features.

And the BBC Sport graphics inconsistently (as dosxuk showed us with the Snooker last month) continues with Wimbledon. The 2014 graphics set (re-coloured in Wimbledon green and purple) is being used for some of the presentation elements, but the match coverage is still using the 2010/11 graphics set, as are the graphics used as Sue talks through the courts.

I don't understand why they haven't got the 2014 graphics fully adapted for Wimbledon this year - it's really rather poor. It's not because the World Feed doesn't want 14:9 safe graphics (as opposed to the 2010 set being 4:3 safe) is it?!

Its because IMG sports media handle the actual feeds, maybe the bbc should have given the updates to IMG, the highlights show from IMG also has the old graphics. I wasnt in today but looking at the highlights show Setanta are definitely showing IMG's output so I might be in luck for once and be able to watch this years world feed.

Seems to be a horizontal positioning issue with the pictures coming from SW19 at the moment on BBC1 and BBC2, I can see the top few lines of the screen below a black bar at the bottom.

edit: fixed at 1719

That's a missing/mistimed reference causing that !

It was affecting BBC 1 and 2, but not the red button channels interestingly.

Interesting, perhaps it was out of sync hitting Red Bee's Tx router, but OK for the Red Button stuff, which are just free running (in terms of reference) channels. I can't remember the last time I've seen a reference error
from an OB or outside source (excluding news feeds) . Were BBC 1 and 2 showing the same pictures at that time, or each doing their own thing ?

The same problem has popped up when Salford are playing out a recording from Sky Sports during a BBC Sports Centre report on the news; I wonder if the problem above originates from there.

EDIT: Thinking about it, I am not sure if there's a plain black bar, or if it loops round (as it were) in that image. Either way, it's a very similar problem visually.

The black bar is vertical blanking. That is a mistimed source which is not locked properly vertically.

Wonder how the pictures are getting back from SW19 and whether something is supposed to synchronise in W12 but isn't?

Red button pictures probably coming via a different route?

Something to do with camera angles I believe.

Top left simply works better at Wimbledon.

Couldn't they just tilt or lower the cameras slightly though.

But then the ball would regularly go out of the top of the shot when being served from the far end.

To make a lower graphic work, you need the camera's physically higher up, or pull the shot wider.

Yes, on Serena William's match.

Taking feeds 'off air' is often performed with domestic set top boxes. They can't be genlocked into
the broadcast infrastructure, so if someone fails to stuff them through a frame synchroniser before recording/ingesting, you will get that problem. However, the black bar (vertical blanking period) can and will
appear anywhere in the picture, worst case, right across the middle.

This multiple cock-up by BBC East is a prime example

How did Channel manage for years taking a broadcast feed of another station?

Up until the 1990s by crashing in and out for the off air mainland feed, with non sync cuts. I don't think
they attempted to genlock to it, probably a wise choice, it was very unstable (to do things like that with)

From the 1990s, when they became affordable, using a Frame Synchroniser,

Here we are 1985, lovely non sync cuts at 1:58, 2:54, 3:39, 3:48, 4:19 and 5:31

Interesting! So it isn't a BBC director (for example) cutting the pictures on Centre Court? Instead, somebody employed by IMG? Or am I misunderstanding?
