Certainly would have confused anyone watching the World feed as to why their commentators were making Sound of Music references all of a sudden.

Wonder if they'll continue with the tennis on BBC One or move to BBC Two as scheduled.

They've moved the tennis to BBC 2 so they can show pointless and prized apart.

I'm surprised they didn't leave the tennis on One considering it was just a repeat of Pointless coming up.

As always tends to be the case at this end of the championships, the BBC don't schedule a channel overlap so the coverage has to be rushed off air and a few minutes of the match in progress is missed.

I knew there'd be complaints on here about that - what is the problem with it, and why would any promo have to be for another sports event? A great opportunity to promote another show during downtime. Makes sense!

There used to be a time, not that long ago, when the Beeb would say, '...and you can watch the England Vs Whoever match free from any interruptions on the BBC.....'

Another 'USP' they no longer value then ?

Had the match been going in Murray/Peers favour, I suspect a different scenario would have occurred. with a 2-S-0 lead their opponents were clearly on top. Moving it across to BBC TWO was deemed satisfactory.

How do modern recording devices cope when a programme is moved to a different channel?

If you schedule a recording for tennis on BBC2 and it gets moved to BBC1, do Sky+ and the Virgin, Free view and Freesat equivalents still record it?

It's not an interruption if it's a break in play!

With regards to Sky, I suspect it's whether it gets identified as part of a series as to what gets recorded. I dare say BBC 1 Wimbledon, for example, is classed from the point of view of the Sky+ box as one series whereas BBC 2 Wimbledon is seen as another series. A match being moved from BBC Two to BBC One, especially when the main programme is already on air according to the EPG and just gets extended, isn't going to trigger an automatic recording on any platform to my mind.

That being said, there was the incident a couple of years ago when Autumnwatch or whatever it was fell off the air, to a point where the channel went to another programme in the meantime, and when Autumnwatch returned the Sky+ boxes didn't record what was then the "second half" of the programme. The BBC Points of View board was full of complaints about it.

I dare say the old system of VideoPlus may have been able to handle it, though that of course depended on the broadcaster transmitting the codes and the video acting on it, as it may have been seen as a clash.

Video+ wouldn't have iirc, PDC might have

You can understand why it would feel like a commercial break, though.

Frankly if they're going to interrupt the programme for a trailer, they should promote something that isn't already one of the BBC's biggest shows and that most people who watch it will probably know is returning anyway.

I knew I didn't mean VideoPlus but couldn't remember what the other one was. PDC, Programme Delivery Control. Never found out if it still worked if a programme changed channels.
