Well that filled the last 4-5 pages nicely.

Until next year...

What all this illustrates, is a complete disconnect between the technical and distribution infrastructure required to allow the BBC to do what they need, and what's actually provided.

If we take as 'a given' that certain events will require BBC 1 to be 'hi jacked' then either the Beeb, should man up, and pay for a decent and flexible opt out system that works for BBC 1 and 2 (as it does in the nations of course)
or take the pragmatic view that they are starved of cash, and in future Murry and co will have to remain 'hidden away' (Come on, I don't think so !!) on BBC 2.

Perhaps if the 10 layers of management are disposed of, as Hall promises, that may happen, but I can't help thinking that in order to dispose of all those layers, there'll be another three or four inserted in the interim. as part of a 'Change Management Assessment Working Party' programme ! Are we absolutely sure W1A is fiction ?

I assume the 'Wimbledon 2Day' name was something a 50 something BBC executive came up with to make the highlights programme appeal to a younger audience and be more hip. When will they ever learn?!

Speaking as a '50 something' with two sons in their early twenties, it would be the last name on earth I'd dream up
in that position !

Or they can just use common sense and schedule accordingly. Whether Murray is involved or not the mens semi-finals are as worthy of their place on BBC1 as the World Cup/Euro group games where they simple schedule the news at 7pm or later on those days. Obviously tennis is open ended but it is very rare for the semis to be finished by 6pm.

The "everyone can get BBC2" argument is long lost so really there is absolutely nothing to complain about from last night - the 6pm news got moved, the regional news was able to stay in place.

I agree, but the Beeb are incapable of applying common sense and pragmatism, it's simply not in their DNA, they'd rather throw away the production costs of 12 regional news
shows, than leave an event on BBC2, a pity it's our money ultimately, but there you go

I agree. It wouldn't take a lot to sort out regional BBC Two either, given the nations already have the facility. In the grand scheme of things, it's small beer and anyone with a business mind could find the money to do it.

The alternative is to just reschedule the news hour completely.

Apart from the issue of needing satellite capacity to broadcast all the regional variations, which would all spend 99.99% of the time broadcasting the same thing. And the provision of coding/muxing which again 99.99% of the time would be pointless.

It's an issue that should be solved by the scheduling department, not by chucking tons of infrastructure and money at it.

Im in the young group, and I hate the name.

Does anyone know when this logo stopped being used?

I saw a playback of a Federer match and this was in the background. Yet the current logo would seemed to have been in use the first time he played at Wimbledon, 98?

Indeed, very tacky, one thing a trailer for another sporting event, but an entertainment show?

I knew there'd be complaints on here about that - what is the problem with it, and why would any promo have to be for another sports event? A great opportunity to promote another show during downtime. Makes sense!

I never got why they dropped that for what I thought to be the more dated tennis racquet logo, but seeing a bit of the 2002 final today with the W logo on the score board and that looked so dated.

Back to the future and Richard Lewis, chief executive of the club, is almost certain the rights will remain with the BBC:
Quote:
“We have got a very good relationship with the BBC. They do a very good job for us and we do a good job for them. I think it’s a win-win. I don’t see any reason for it to change, in a nutshell.”

P.S. John Inverdale has improved immensly in the commentary role over the last month. He really did feel like he was presenting the commentary when he started out at Queens but now he's a natural, and far better than Andrew Castle ever will be.

P.P.S. A real shame that Friday's coverage of the Davis Cup will be red button only due to coverage of The Open on BBC2 - considering they've wiped the scheduled for two weeks don't see why they couldn't have aired it 1.45-6pm on BBC1 on Friday. Also as the temporary red button streams on the HD mux aren't being used for anything else you'd have thought they'd keep them a week longer to provide extra coverage of The Open next week.

Yes I'm disappointed with that too - there's nearly three hours of repeats on BBC One on Friday afternoon.
