The scheduling of this programme never ceases to amaze me. It doesn't seem to cross anybody's mind that its normally still playable conditions up until at least 9pm at this time of year, therefore it would be a far more sensible idea to air Today At Wimbledon at a time when its going to be beyond playable conditions - say from 9:30pm, instead of putting it in at the unworkable time of 8pm.

Day 1 and already the scheduling of Today at Wimbledon has been shown to be a stupid decision!

Just on the 8pm highlights point... Last year was an experiment, but we did some detailed research afterwards - and a small but clear majority of viewers preferred the 8pm start time.
There are two reasons for it. The first is that the tennis audience flows naturally from the live coverage into a recap of the day.
The second is that placing highlights at 8pm allows BBC Two to run its normal schedule after 9pm. So if you take a popular series like "Rome" - which has to play after the 9pm watershed - it would have to be taken off air completely during Wimbledon if the highlights were at 9.30pm.
And don't forget: if you prefer live play, it continues past 8pm most nights on our red button and interactive services.
Final thought: we do, of course, accept that scheduling can't please everyone. But at least with highlights you think are too early there's a chance to video them or put them on the PVR to watch at a time that does suit - which I absolutely accept isn't the case when people think highlights are on too late, as with the Ashes.
