Day 1 and already the scheduling of Today at Wimbledon has been shown to be a stupid decision!

But this year a special exception could have been made, since the BBC will not have Neighbours next year. And anyway, would the tennis fans mind if BBC1's afternoon coverage began at 2:05pm instead of 1:40pm and ended at 5:35pm? Probably not, and it's only a loss of 50 minutes daily for the tennis fans compared to the three hours of standard BBC1 fare and NINE hours of standard BBC2 fare daily the rest of us have to miss.
I can't believe that any of the stuff that is usually shown on BBC1 or BBC2 at these times is unmissable. Why not try watching another channel?

Exactly.

Personally I think the BBC should quietly forget to bring back Neighbours after Wimbledon is finished!

LOL!

People are complaining on Teletext letters page about Neighbours not being on - what did people expect? It has taken a break during Wimbledon fortnight for at least the last 5-6 years.

Your opinion. Ratings say different.

Perhaps if the break wasn't taken during a saturation sporting event - and perhaps in two one-week stoppages, it would be easier for the Neighbours fans and the tennis haters to stomach.

What's ratings got to do with it?

Sky guide shows Today at Wimbledon has been put back to 11.20pm. Hopefully Peter and Dan Snow will still be shown tonight. This match can't go on past 9.30pm can it?

And why shouldn't they? That these complaints are still necessary after 5-6 years demonstrates the BBC's usual intransigence.

So, how do we keep the tennis fans and tennis haters happy? A few suggestions:

1) Run Neighbours as normal during Wimbledon. It's only 23 minutes for God's sake, so would hardly make a dent in the already extensive tennis coverage;
2) BBC2 to show alternative programming between 1340-1525. A combination perhaps of non-tennis favourites from both channels, ie. Weakest Link and afternoon news;
3) Drop the repeat of "Today at Wimbledon" the following morning on 2.
4) When rain stops play, show non-tennis standbys.

So simple, BBC. Even I could work it out.

A strap saying "Peter and Dan Snow: 20th Century Battlefields" will follow this programme just went up. Did this show in Wales, where they weren't showing it anyway?

Presumably Have I Got Old News For You is going to be cancelled.

Good match, though.

You seem to be missing my point. Neighbours is off air in Oz for at least 3 or 4 weeks, possibly more, over Christmas (their summer). So the BBC has to take it off at some point to prevent us getting too close to Oz episodes. They are better off taking it off air for a fortnight when there is something worthwhile to replace it with (Wimbledon fortnight) rather than take it off for 2 random weeks in March or something.

They also take it off for Bank Holidays normally to make up the other couple of weeks its off air in Oz.

People complaining obviously dont realise that we have to take a break sometimes - before 6 years ago it wasnt a problem as we were so far behind Oz we didnt need breaks (just like Five havent needed to take Home and Away off until quite recently on Bank Hols)
