Was going to say yesterday, when was the last time the BBC One schedule would have been displaced because of a Women's match? For the past few years all the late local news programmes have been because of Murray, haven't they?

Looking at the 1977 tournament, both Virginia Wade and Sue Barker were in the semis (separately) which of course Wade famously won the final against Betty Stöve.

Of course last year they moved Konta v Bouchard in the second round to BBC Four.

This was because the vigil for the Battle of the Somme was scheduled for BBC Two at 19:30.

With Murray out, is it likely Konta will be third on Centre tomorrow?

Man, that feels weird. A British woman doing better than all the men! Must be the first time that's happened for a good few decades.

I have your answer - 2012 Ladies' doubles final was moved from BBC Two to BBC One at 22:00. https://tvforum.uk/tvhome/wimbledon-2012-38318/page-19

Amazing detective work! And the News at 10 as well, that's not been shifted for Wimbledon for the past few years either!

It was a Saturday, and the thread suggests they moved the BBC One programme to BBC Two, so the news was scheduled for later (22:50, 22:55?) anyway.

And to think the big concern was whether it would mean the BBC could air The Hollow Crown before the Olympics.

I remember this, because I'd gone out for dinner, and we were totally baffled when we got in and found the news was just starting an hour late, I had no idea what had been going on.

In 2005, Live 8 was supposed to move from BBC2 to BBC1 at about 4pm but it ended up being the longest Ladies' Final ever and it stayed on BBC2 for another hour or so.

BBC Two just left Heather Watson's doubles match to go to Today at Wimbledon just as she was about to serve for the match!
The red button wasn't quite ready for people switching over.

Couldn't they have held on for just 5 minutes seeing as it's likely to be the final game? Was annoying having to piss about to the red button channels... especially as it took a couple of minutes for the game to be on there.

I'll never understand why the BBC doesn't use 'common sense' scheduling when it comes to Wimbledon. Things like that and how the 1pm news doesn't air on BBC Two or earlier so that BBC One can cover Center Court from when play begins on there just doesn't make sense from a scheduling or viewing POV

If you move the news to BBC Two you have to ditch the regional opt-outs in the headlines, and still have to switch back to BBC One for the regional news, as none of the English regions can opt-out of BBC Two. (They only had this ability in the days of analogue.)

Only the Nations (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) can do their own thing on BBC Two.
