The majority of viewers won't know that the region's can't opt on BBC Two!

It's not just the viewers that seem ignorant of that constraint (or at least that's how it feels!)

They'll probably realise that they can't on BBC Two HD, same as they can't on BBC One HD, but probably don't realise they can't in SD also (despite "BBC Two Eng" on the EPG).

I also tend to subscribe to the notion that folk expect to see their local BBC news on BBC 1 , much more than folk expect to see major sporting events on BBC 1

I watched the landlord of our local pub switch on the TV last Friday, and he randomly pressed buttons until the tennis appeared. He really couldn't have given a flying fcuk whether it was on 1, or 2, or the Beeb, or ITV, or Dave....... (and nor could anyone in the pub)

All that's important is the Beeb make the tennis available and easy to find, and the regional news available at the originally published time, and easy to find. IMHO YMMV

I think today's decision was more justified in that it was already on BBC One before 18:00, so it was kept on BBC One, whereas on Friday we had Murray's match start on BBC Two and move over.

Did any other regions show initiative and opt out for their own ident at 7pm?

John McEnroe just joking about the channel changes and asking whether they get a whole new group of viewers when they change channels and if there's people who only watch BBC One. He'd been stopped mid answer on BBC One to switch to Two - seemed a bit bit perplexed by it. Sue was quick to mention the viewing figure for Konta.

It's rather like the logic of medieval witch dunking, we'll never actually know whether that match would have also achieved 7.4 million if it had been on BBC 2 ?

They've got a massive half hour gap in coverage now. The BBC always manage to some how screw up the scheduling one way or another when these last minute changes happen.

And they had a natural break in play at 6.30pm when they could very easily have changed channels in to keep to a published schedule.

Mum bought a new radio today, and when we tried it out back at the house, I tuned it to radio five live. I noticed that the TV coverage was circa 10 seconds behind the radio coverage. Is there a reason for the delay?

Ten seconds sounds like a lot, but it takes longer to encode, transmit and decode television than it does radio.

We were watching the coverage on a Sky box. Would the delay have been shorter watching on freeview?

Not massively (all else being equal), the uplink-downlink delay only accounts for about 0.25 of a second. It's all the coding and decoding processes that soak up several seconds in total

Also HD takes longer than SD which is why HD channels are usually a couple of seconds behind their SD equivalents.
