So considering this happens pretty much every year on the first Friday of Wimbledon, why don't they just be done with it and actually schedule the tennis to go on BBC1 all evening in the first place? At least that way everyone would know where they are.

Fine if we're guaranteed that we have British players on that evening. However, if all the BBC One shows are moved to Two and we're left with an evening of obscure tennis players that nobody has heard of on BBC One, it'll be a poor night of ratings on both channels.

To be fair, although it isn't guaranteed to be Murray, it would never be an 'obscure tennis player nobody has heard of'

If you asked a non tennis fan who they've heard of currently, it'd be Sharapova the cheat, the Williams sisters, Novak Djokovic, Federer and Nadal in addition to Murray.

If you're lucky, some may have heard of Robson, Watson and Konta, the latter who for the first time is playing in the second week.

Indeed this is mainly why the current women's number 1 and 2 are both playing on Court 2 on Monday, while the first match on Centre Court is between 10th and 27th seeds.

But also, scheduled play on Centre Court could be done and dusted by 6-7pm, especially if there is a retirement or two as happened on Tuesday when they put Wozniacki v Babos on Centre Court as an extra match. If that happened on Friday, the extra match would more than likely be mixed doubles and you can't justify that match being prime time BBC1.
You can if it happens to be a Brit involved, like Jamie Murray.

So it's ok for Eastenders to get poor ratings but not a sporting event.....

Yes. Live sporting events are as much entertainment as the soaps, sitcoms or drama.

No, they are far more entertaining, especially over a soap opera.

Well a dire soap opera at that. Personally I find most soaps as bland as golf.

How do the Wimbledon streams on the BBC Sport website work? Was watching Williams on the BBC Sport website which was a feed different from that shown on BBC Two, who only joined towards the end of the match - looking at iPlayer rewind when the Williams match finished Sue Barker was quick to take back control, on the Sport website we had a shot of centre court and a caption that the next match was Murray, and after a minute or two we faded into the BBC Two feed, with Sue Barker interviewing Boris Becker. Was that interview part of the world (?) feed or something, or did they just fade to the BBC output rather than the court feeds?

Normally it's just the straightforward court feed on the website, it's possible that the BBC had different commentary to the world feed for the Murray match so they put their own output on the Sport website instead.

I think the problem is the messing about with the schedules at very short notice leaves viewers wondering what's happening with their favourite programmes, whether they are going to be moved to a later slot, moved to BBC2 or postponed altogether, as well as messing up people's recordings.

Absolutely spot on, just made worse when there is no technical reason for the schedules to be messed with. Anyone who can get BBC1 can get BBC2, and vice versa. Those watching live may not care, those watching recordings, quite frankly do.

Is it me or are there less closing montages this year. I don't think I've seen an edition that hasn't just ended with the usual few bars of A Sporting Occasion whereas in previous years they'd have a montage, even on a run of the mill day.

There's another kind of soap opera other than a dire one?

As Djokovic v Mannarino didn't get played today, play on Centre Court starts at 12:00 tomorrow, which will mean changes to the schedule of BBC One or Two (or both?) in the morning.
