I'd have thought in this day and age of on-screen TV guides and the search-and-scan banners that sort of (verbal) announcement was redundant by now.
They are for the more proactive viewer who will go looking through the EPG. There will be those who assume that EastEnders will follow the tennis, how are they to know the BBC's scheduling policy?
The announcements also don't help people who have EastEnders on series record, and just come home later to find no recording (or explanation). If the programme was kept on the same channel, but shown later, the PVR would pick up the later time. I'm not aware of any that will pick up a channel change.

No, and a quick check of W's schedule doesn't show that for today. Do they still do it?

Oh yes I absolutely agree with all that. But having a caption and announcement doesn't make that silly situation any worse!
