I suppose it wouldn't actually matter that much given that scenario. If you are recording something on BBC Two England and it moves to BBC One, does it matter if the recording gets picked up on BBC One London or BBC One South East? You would still have the recording, which is what matters at the end of the day.
I guess the problem would be worse if the move was from BBC One to BBC Two though. As I understand it, the programme would have a programme PID that was the same for all versions of BBC One but it would also have a unique broadcast PID which would be unique for each BBC One variation. So there would be 22 broadcast PIDs (18 for the SD broadcasts and 4 for the HD) needing to be converted to 5 (for the BBC Two nations and the HD version). Can a broadcast have multiple broadcast PIDs?
It's all academic anyway, I don't think the BBC operate a system that allows recordings to jump channels.
However, there is a similar real world issue with the 'press green' system used on promos. It always seems to point to BBC One London and BBC One HD England, I suppose it could point to all broadcasts of said programme but that may be confusing for the viewer. I think Channel 4 have a similar problem too.
(I suppose it's easier to do on Freeview, where the box only has one BBC One and one BBC Two, but on DSAT, how's the box to know which of the BBC Ones to switch to if a programme moves there from BBC Two?)
