It does seem nowadays that Sue Barker's main role for these big matches is as continuity announcer - though wish they'd limit the announcements to just the starting junction of each programme.

I'm not saying the BBC don't have a duty to air the national on regional news on BBC One. Although I think at some points, big sporting events like this are not only in themselves news but the biggest news.

I'd have no problem with the news being bumped to BBC2 if the regional opts were possible on 2.

Maybe it's time for the BBC to put some pressure on Sky to make their box software allow remapping EPG slots to alternative transponders on the fly. That would pave the way to allowing regional opts on any BBC channel

Sloppy double captions there about The One Show.

But there are no Sky EPG slots for English regional programmes on BBC Two, so transmitting the programmes would be pointless, as there would be no way for the STBs to pick them up.

Even if there were, it wouldn't solve the problem for Freeview or Virgin.

The "BBC One" version just looks awful doesn't it.

I think what Steve means is that in theory each BBC region would have a feed and then at the relevent times BBC1 would switch to that feed for regional programmings - and then in theory BBC2 could also switch to that feed as and when required. Not sure how realistic that is but it would be the ideal solution and would only really require one extra channel - a BBC1 network feed.

Freeview and Virgin are regionalised anyway so presumably regionalising BBC2 wouldn't be too big an issue - the only reason they're not now is because of the number of extra channels it would require on Sky.

I think I grasped what Steve meant: but essentially it would still be shown on 'BBC One' for people wanting to watch the regional news.

The BBC want the programme on their premier channel.

The transponder it's transmitted on isn't the problem, it's the way it appears as an option for DSat viewers. What Steve's suggesting would involve having redundant BBC Two regional channels on Sky's EPG, which would only come into play in such situations. I don't think Sky's EPG rules, which are dictated by Ofcom, allow that anyway.

I think we have to accept that the schedulers just see popular sport as an unpredictable nightmare situation, and adapt as much (and as fast) as they can. They cleared BBC One, effectively until 10pm, with EastEnders now being shuffled forwards at regular intervals as I predicted.

I suspect it won't be shown tonight, which is no sad loss, unless someone was in desperate need of a 'dose of depression this evening' ! Wink

Just national I believe. It was a "here's the news from where you are" type announcement.

South East Today had their own version, didn't recognise the voice so assume it was maybe someone from Radio Kent. It introduced both presenters, which obviously isn't normally needed. And as noted in a video elsewhere on here, Look North Yorkshire had a custom one too.

Thanks guys!

EPG showing Sherlock from 9-10 on BBC 1 NI, That'd never work as it's a 90 min program

Eastenders will never be premiered on Three first.

They would substitute another programme instead.

It was for a fortnight when BBC 3 launched.

I understand they're just using up an empty stream, but not really sure it's worth pushing the Henman Hill cam.

It's now become a 30 minute programme on BBC One HD. Laughing

That is a bit of a strange on.

Vaguely on that topic (well, not at all really) but how do people feel about there seemingly being more focus on the invitational doubles featuring the likes of McEnroe and Navaratalova yet virtually no coverage on BBC1/2 of the current doubles events. I know the old folk are popular and last nights game was entertaining, but surely they should be focusing on the games of today more and building up the doubles tournament alongside the singles rather than seemingly sidelining it to the red button through to the later stages. I suspect matches got some BBC2 coverage yesterday and today, but very little in the evening.
