This certainly looks like it's going to be a long one.

Oooh er! One wishes, does one!

Andrew Castle is quite acceptable as a commentator.

Seemed to be a problem leaving the 3D tennis coverage on BBC HD. The copyright slide was on for ages and then we crashed back in to 2D programmes with an audio distortion but without a caption telling us that 3D coverage was coming to end.

Hard lines Andy . . . beaten by the greatest of them all. You can't complain about that.

Although I'm not quite sure what happened at the start of Sue's interview, when Andy broke down - its not usually the form at Wimbledon for the finalists to take the microphone and say whatever they want; its usually Sue who asks the questions. Maybe Sue offered him the microphone and I didn't notice . . .

EDIT: having just watched it again on iPlayer, Andy asked Sue if he could take the microphone, and she obliged.

Anyway. Another Wimbledon done and dusted (well, almost, the mixed doubles final on BBC Two now). See you all next year for more debates about dodgy Today at Wimbledon scheduling, and switching the news to BBC Two.

As well as plenty of "This is why BBC Two should be the official home of BBC Sport" posts.

So much better to give them the mic and let them share what they're thinking rather than force them to answer a series of increasingly inane questions.

As for the old BBC2 argument - I was thinking actually a few weeks ago how with BBC2 lacking any sort of purpose at the moment whether the BBC might have been better off making it their regional network - but I kind of dismissed the idea in my own head before even posting it here. I think the BBC have got the balance right this year though in terms of switching games from BBC2 to BBC1 - indeed I'd be tempted to say they should have stuck with the quarter final on Wednesday too.

Lots of changes and additional programmes on BBC HD at the moment while they wait for the tennis to finish on BBC Two so they can both show programmes at the same time.

Quote:
Wimbledon is now on for 3 hours and 10 minutes (an extra 40 minutes)
Super Smart Animals will not now be shown.
Secrets of our Living Planet will not now be shown.
Coast has been added to the schedule (at 18:40)
Coast has been added to the schedule (at 20:00)
Coast has been added to the schedule (at 20:10)
Life of Riley has been added to the schedule (at 20:20)
A Little Later has been added to the schedule (at 20:50)

Why don't they just show the tennis in HD?

EDIT : Looks like A Little Later is actually Hairy Bikers.

Now that would just be common sense. BBC HD is pretty much only showing the BBC2 schedule tonight anyway, so it isn't like they had to make a junction.

P.S. I take it the BBC didn't see fit to air Today at Wimbledon in an earlier slot tonight.

Did we get to hear all of 'Sporting Occasion' at all this year? They used to play it in full at the end of each week's play.

They haven't played 'Sporting Occasion' over the full closing titles for many, many years now - I think 2002 was the last time. They stopped using the extended version at the same time as they stopped using 'Purple and Green' for the coming-up sequences.

They do play the last couple of bars of Sporting Occasion coming out of most of the daytime programmes, and the current set of opening titles has a few bars at the very beginning, which is a nice touch (1:05 in the vid below) . . .

The option to watch in 2D has (on Freeview at least) been removed on the 3D rerun of the final currently being shown.
