I think that the Silverstone British GP could have a dent into the Wimbledon Final ratings. The GP is a huge event itself and usually averages the 5 million mark so that could end any possibility of reaching 20 million.

Certainly for the first 90 minutes, yes. The F1 race itself finishes at around 3pm (weather permitting of course), so if viewers are switching over then there could still be two or three hours of tennis still to play, if it goes to 5 sets. So there's still every possibility of getting a huge peak viewership for the tennis.

Perhaps non-sports fans are a little apathetic about today's occasion, but it really is a day of massive national sporting significance. It there is one example of the BBC's idea of sporting events which 'bring the nation together', then this could well be it . . .

That was a very nice video montage shown at the start of the BBC One coverage, remembering past British sporting victories.

Wow, these current pictures of Pat Cash's win 25 years ago show how bad the picture quality was back then (when upscaled to HD on a 42" screen). The grass also looked so brown by the final day! Shocked

Lovely touch to have Harry Carpenter's voice featured in that last montage . . .

Have all the BBC Sport umbrellas been sent to Silverstone? Sue Barker just appeared with a non-branded transparent umbrella.

If this is a result of DQF then close down BBC Four immediately!

It's transparent with equally transparent BBC Sport branding. She needs it to keep an eye out for annoying tenors.

So if Andy Murray wins today, I'm expecting him to get some sort of recognition, ie MBE, OBE, CBE or even Sir??

And she said Sir Alex Ferguson was the First Minister of Scotland! Very Happy

Poor Sue's getting carried away with the occasion . . one of the biggest days of her broadcasting career, I suppose.

Nope, he will receive the Venus Rosewater Dish (boys edition).

He's tipped for an OBE.

Apart from the 23.95m that watched Torvill and Dean at the Lillehammer Olympics. Sue presented much of the action from the arena that night.
