304 isn't licenced, for non Olympic content, so no go on that front.

I know, it's daft.

I know, it's daft.

They should have made the argument to have it for this unique summer of sport. Rather than just the Olympics.

EDIT: Couldn't they justify it as a test?

The Daily Mail seem to know the ratings for Murray's match already, despite the fact they aren't out until the morning

Wouldn't be making stuff up now, would they Confused

Still I'm sure if the BBC did the same thing they'd let it go quietly Rolling Eyes

It would be nice if network BBC One took a leaf out of BBC Wales's book, and maybe rustled up a few special idents for the big occasion . . . but maybe I'm being too hopeful.

Also - considering this now really is a HUGE sporting occasion - it would be nice if the build-up to the final on Sunday could be extended. Say, start on BBC One at 12.10pm, move the British Grand Prix build-up to BBC Two, shift the MotoGP to the Red Button and replay the MotoGP at 3.30pm on BBC Two, replacing the scheduled film.

Again, probably being too hopeful . . .

Actually, thinking about it, the final wouldn't start until 2pm so it's already getting 65 minutes build-up. I think that's plenty.

3D might not happen today. F1 likely to overrun on BBC 2/HD

This is true. And 65 minutes is more than double the usual build-up - its normally a 1.30pm start. But its such a big occasion. The 'Cup Final' of tennis. And I long for the days when the Cup Final build-up started 4 hours before kick-off!

Don't worry - it's here, along with the 60s and full 90s promos (without Murray)

Although the mens final does appear to have a replay at midday on Monday.

Perhaps, considering the Grand Prix/Wimbledon clash, it would have been a better idea to schedule delayed 3D coverage of the tennis finals in a later time slot, to avoid any clash whatsoever with the Grand Prix.

That would also have meant that the weather-affected Grand Prix coverage would not have been cut short on BBC HD.

A complicated, unfortunate situation, the outcome of which will never please everyone.
