Wouldn't it be nice?

Browsing and contributing to this forum over the past couple of years has made me realise that there are a lot of people here who know a great deal about pres and its history, and who, when asked, are willing to write at length about it. The problem is that once a person's questions have been answered, the post gets lost in a thread, which gets lost in a massive forum, and the information is practically impossible to find.

The alternative source of information is the pres websites, whose owners do huge amounts of work to keep them going. However their being kept up to date and online relies on the commitment, money, continuing interest and effort of one or just a few people. Asa's closure of TV Home demonstrated that it's sometimes unrealistic to keep these things going, and the same thing could happen to any of the existing websites.

In the great scheme of things, pres is not hugely important, but the sheer number of members of this site demonstrates a sizeable interest in the subject. It would be great to have a place where everyone could pool their knowledge and images (possibly with links to video content).

I am too young, broke and sensible to start up such a website myself, and I imagine there would be some cost involved. I'm just throwing the idea out there, as I've never heard it mentioned before.

I know this probably belongs in Media Websites, but I think it could disappear into obscurity there, and I believe (if only through silence) that I've sufficiently proven myself not to be a troll. Please don't delete it!

This was tried and tested before by an Tv Forumer before and it didn't work out well. Good effort in your post though.

Orry already tried that but it didn't work, it's a nice idea but Wikipedia is much more more info.

Wasn't given much of a chance if you ask me. These things take alot of time (and effort).

I agree; it does need to be given some kind of a chance, even though it would be time consuming.

Roysh, well I seem to have missed the previous wiki entirely. It's a shame it didn't take off really

I disagree about Wikipedia. It contains little information about pres, nor would I want it to. You can't go into depth about pres over there, as it is considered (and I would tend to agree) trivial and unencyclopaedic.

There was one its was called Wikivision but what is wrong with just using Wikipedia with all those articles (other 1 million articles) and it's so popular.

As was said you just can't go into the sort of detail that you could on a specific site. That applies to all categories within wikipedia. As for Wikivision, I assume that's the site Orry set up, was there one week gone the next.

What we really need is some sort of cross between You Tube and Wikipedia.

I think for it to be a success, it needs to start out small. I planned for the new forum to feature a cross between a wiki and an FAQ, allowing members to update pages in the same way they make posts.

So for example, regional news names on the left hand side would link to a page giving details about Midlands Today, South East Today, Calendar etc.. as I know that would tap into those interested in the regional news threads and then maybe build it up from there with pages about FAQs such as "why doesn't BBC One have a clock anymore?" and "which ITV regions had invision continuity?" Very Happy
