Can someone explain the logic to me of both main programmes starting at 9.55pm? Is it because they don't think anyone will be able to nip out and vote in under 5 minutes?

I think it is because they can have a summary before the 10 o'clock news

It starts at 9.55pm as they can introduce the programme and reveal live the results of the exit polls on the stroke of 10pm. They cannot announce these polls until voting has closed.
