The title's slightly misleading - of course all idents are used over and over again. But has anyone else noticed that the love ident, the one with the tree huggers, is being used much, much more than the others? I've noticed this for a while now, but I was going through a few videos today of programmes I taped last month and every ITV1 junction I came to used that ident. Indeed, there was one evening a couple of weeks ago, when every junction from Emmerdale to Quizmania, except the news, used that ident.
Can anyone explain why the hell they're doing this? Out of a sufficient batch, I just can't understand why they'd want to use the same one all the time. I've seen it so many times it's actually become annoying. In fact I've not seen one of the others for so long, its music reminds me of the time it debuted and was used more frequently than it is now, in January (the one with the kids rolling down the hill). Or those at ITV1 just a set of uncreative arses?
The one with the kid walking upstairs with toast, or the one with the man chasing cows seems to be used just as often
Unless it's used a lot in the daytime, the one with the pigs seems to be used the least
You don't usually get much discussion about ITV's idents, mostly people just say "Who cares? they're all rubbish!", so much for it being a presentation forum!
It just proves how ill-thought out ITV1's revamp was compared to previous ones. Not only did we get the new idents in January - announcers Graham Rogers and Paul Seed were shunted off to digital channels with younger voices taking their place.
And they still haven't got a suitable news ident. How can images of taking Mum breakfast in bed, and a man proudly showing off his motorbike collection be considered serious?
I quite like the ident they show before sport - but of course that isnt shown too often as there isnt all that much sport shown.
Its a shame they moved some of the better announcers to ITV2. I am sick of that female announcer, she seems to be on all the time, and her voice is irritating over the end credits of the programmes.

You're quite right there on those points.
Re: News ident, Pride isn't a serious or sombre emotion to choose. Perhaps the seemingly under-used 'Sadness' one would be a bit better because it's the only truly sombre regular ident.
I say 'regular', because there is of course the break bumper style (of logo on the plain black background) that, IMO, stands out far more than any of the actual set and would be my top choice for serious news.
The kid walking upstairs with Toast is the one that is shown the most on ITV1, then the tree hugging one must come second, that's usually the ident shown at 9.25am whenever I've put it on.
I don't mind the idents, they're not that in your face, though they aren't the best of the current ITV lot. The sad ident is rarely shown, the only time I ever saw that one was before the episode of Coronation Street where Mike Baldwin died, otherwise I've never seen in it. (other than the internet of course)
I just wonder how it's possible for an ident package for a major natioanl network could be bad and be so wrong? They must have paid millions for this rubbish... the new ITV was meant to establish emotions but is so forgettable - there's nothing in them that you think - ah yes.. this is ITV.. even at your uncle's wedding, someone doing the pogo against a red table cloth will remind you of BBC1... a fluffy dog could remind you of BBC2. Even a sniveling kid making toast doesn't remind me of ITV1 - and why would it. Crap crap crap. Good night.
