Back on ITV1..

I've been on DS and looked up the schedules and on Sat 10th March, Millionaire is back! (Obviously replacing PokerFace). Why oh why do they have to bring back this stale show! Can anyone confirm if this is a start of a new series, or just celebrity ones and so on?

Andrew.

Looks like they're launching with a special in which they allow members of the general public the chance to play.

Oh dear - they have finally run out of ideas if they have to bring this tired gameshow back. Rolling Eyes

I'm afraid so.

It returns next Saturday for their 21st series. It's a fact that Celador have already recorded FOURTEEN civillian episodes which were in the can back in November & December. In addition to the phone lines still being open for an extra show to be recorded in early May.

Looks like no sign of the show disappearing this spring/summer. Saying that they never had a winter break before.

Oh dear - predicting the Mail on Sunday scandal already - Millionaire inviting viewers to apply for already recorded episodes!

I don't think it's a dead and buried gameshow yet - it's just lost it's shine and isn't "must watch" TV anymore.

However, it's still reliable for a good hour of viewing if nothing else is on - and hence airing it over the less competitive summer months rather than over the winter might do the show some favours.

As long as there isn't a celeb special every other week that is!

21 series in less than 10 years - dear me, talk about overkill!

Not true, as the rules (also when you phone up) clearly state what recording dates are available when you make the call. As it stands, the phone lines are open for one recording to be done on 1st May 2007.

Reason why they have got months of shows in the can was that before Christmas they decided to record two shows a day.

Don't forget the first seven series were the ones that were shown every night for one-two weeks. Those seven series was shown across 2 & 1/2 years. While since then its been two series per year.

Remember though over the first few years it was four or five short series of consecutive episodes rather than one continuous run.

And the last series was only 8-10 episodes at the end of the Autumn.

It's not as popular as it was and it never thinks of anything new but i wouldn't say it's rubbish.

It still averaged 5 million viewers during the 2006 series, so a lot of people must still find it an enjoyable programme to watch.

Sticking it on opposite Casualty in the spring/summer season seems sensible
