They had very ambitious plans to be a multimedia news provider - the ITN News Channel (as it was when it launched in 2000) was part of a service available on 10 platforms, including DAB digital radio, mobile phones, online etc
Ambititious - but underfunded and ultimately futile plans. ITN actually launched a brand new news service with no promotion. Throughout it's entire life it relied only on word of mouth promotion. On DTT, the one platform where it might have stood a chance of working, instead of getting a decent channel number, it appeared at the wrong end of a sea of pay TV channels (the much sought after channel 48 no less - alongisde such prestigious channels as TV Travel Shop, and Simply Money before it went bust, and all the other FTA channels were before channel 20, it was never going to get anywhere stuck up there), and for most of it's time, only appeared for 3 1/2 hours per day.
About the only success it ever had was a C5 simulcast for half an hour (after they pulled Euronews, after ITN said that they were unable to provide C5 with a proper news bulletin in the morning) a day - and even that was in an awful timeslot, never promoted, and quickly replaced with Sky News.
It seemed that ITN launched what could have built into quite a good news service, but without the resources to promote, and thus it never got off the ground, it never made the money that would have permitted it's expansion and improvement beyond the minimalist, single presenter, no lives, basic studio format it started on (I know they tried to sell it's way of working as being 'different' but come on, it was like that because that's all they could afford).
The channel did need to cut back on all it's extra services and did need to turn into the ITVNC or it would have died - and that is indicative of how ill thought out it was.
I'm not trying to type it like the logo, for god's sake do I have to explain it again!!!
I started typing the folder names like 'SKYnews' so I could tell it has content from the current look of SKYnews. All my other folders from the previous looks I typed as 'Sky News'
I just got stuck in the habbit, and I dont intend to change my way because some idiots are getting annoyed with it!

The ITNNC was a God-awful concept. Perhaps ITN intended to remind the world they were still alive after ITV had quite rightly rebranded their news bulletins. The channel was unwatchable in my opinion, but it did carry a few quality presenters, many of which remain on the ITVNC or have gone on to better things.
Just like Teamtalk 252 - it was a vanity project launched by grey suits with no thought for the long-term or for the welfare of their employees.
'back on topic' (sorry) BACK ON TOPIC - what is the topic? A thread for you to showcase some mocks you have made poorly disguised as a thread about some new news studio ideas!
I think they should just build an absolutely huge open-plan building (preferably just buy a large field and put it there), paint it all green, and declare the biggest virtual presentation area in the world.
It would probably need about 10 super-computers to power it, but so what.
Their current studio area is too small to do lots of dynamic presentation... so three choices:
1. Stay as they are
2. Build a new building
3. Utilise studios all over the place - one for Sunrise, one for Live at Five, one for News at Ten... etc.
If they are still presenting most of their news shows from one studio area in two years time, I will be surprised.

NOW BACK ON TOPIC...
I'm sorry, I really can't leave it... what's wrong with labelling your folders "Sky News Current", "Sky News 2000-2002", "Sky News 1998-2000" (or whatever the years are) and so on?
How many times apart from on here do you actually type the words "SKYnews"? My guess is once - when you gave the aforementioned "folder" a name.
It's hardly difficult. If I can manage to type "SKYnews" your way to annoy you, surely you can get out of your "habbit" and type "Sky News" the sensible way when you make a forum post. Maybe that way you wouldn't get the ridicule you do for doing something so pathetic that it distracts everyone else from the purpose of the thread (if it even has a proper purpose).
And finally, what was wrong with the existing Sky News thread?
Assuming you're using Windows, it's not case sensitive. I know Windows ME/2000/XP remember the case you used for folder and filenames (and 98 or 95/NT with the UI update can be configured to do it), internally the operating system can't make any use of them; a true case sensitive OS would be able to identify 'SKYnews' and 'skynews' as two different things, which Windows can't.
So, Martin could actually just enter 'SKYNEWS' or 'skynews' or even 'SkYnEwS' for his 'SKYnews' folder, and he'd get the same result. And additionally, once you've created a folder in Windows, it's unlikely that you'd type it's name ever again unless you enter the path direclty into file dialogue boxes (which, unless you've got a very simple directory structure, isn't very user friendly).
So I don't buy it, I think he types SKYnews on here a lot more than anywhere else (if ever anywhere else). And even if he doesn't, he doesn't need to.
So there we are (and I love this pathetic little debate btw).
I think you will find that in Textual Context like this forum said news channel should be referred to as 'Sky News'. Having been taught recently how to write up reports on my own graphic design I am aware of what you should be doing ... this is taught by a proper English Lecturer.
In example. A recent piece of my Corporate ID is called "ITALIAN CORNER' on the actual logo but it must be refered to as 'Italian Corner' in any other form.
Another example. BBC News is BBC News as 'BBC' is a (can't think of word)... but SKY don't stand for anything.
Oh and the Electric one up there. The fact he missed or inserted an extra letter has really nothing to do with the point. Your company name is a specially formed word of which should be spelt as is seen there. SKYnews as your referring it to should be Sky News. Whether you are a Graphic Designer or a bin man.
Coming from the corporate success that was Hedgehog Online and Xenon Radio... who's websites have come and gone, and who runs a 'production company' that doesnt actually produce anything.....
I rest my case.
DG
Who said anything about me owning a 'Production Company'?
My past really has nothing to do with this because I am talking about what I am currently studying.
I think you will also find my 'Production Company' which if you knew well enough stood for IAN SCRIMGER PRODUCTIONS is actualy myself dear.
But really. From looking at your site an apparant... well whatever you are - You have no work actually online to show for it.
Multimedia company. I think you'll find that in your coursework somewhere.
None of my work is online? LOL!
