If i was watching to be greeted by a news report telling me the results of a football match, I wouldnt except it.

well i wouldn't take exception to it either, i cant see why people wouldn't accept it. .. Wink

i cant see what all the fuss is about to be honest, what is so shocking about the national broadcaster relaying a score which is of interest to many of it's viewers. whether a minority of fans (who weren't bothered enough to go down the local or get sky) did not want to hear the result is indeed their problem - quite easily solved by sticking their fingers in their ears and going #la la la la#

funny how only a minority of forumers (mostly paid up members of the itv brigade) are geting their knickers in a twist Rolling Eyes

But Andrew, if people just accepted this is how things are going to be, and just got on with their lives, this forum wouldn't exist, would it?

Most of the threads here are discussing superficial and immutable issues.

What I would like to know is this.

Why were paid up members of the ITV brigade watching BBC-1?

My guess is it WAS to stop people watching ITV, and channels have been doing this for years.

You only get "if you don't want to know, look away now" before highlights when they're on the same channel - because they want you to keep watching that channel. They all do it to each other.

Don't see the point of an unscheduled news report just for the score though. That really is low.

I am not a 'paid up member of ITV'; in fact, I watch just one programme a week on that channel, and even that one has gone right off recently.

However, I feel to tax someone with threats of imprisonment just to watch a rapidly failing BBC is just not on.

For once, I wholeheartedly agree with you ... and this is one of those instances.

So this is basically another of those BBC 'vendetta' threads, then, rather than a thread about something the BBC has actually done wrong ...

I'm sorry, have I missed something? Since when was the BBC "rapidly failing"?

Since he decided he couldn't form an opinion of his own, so he hopped on the BBC-bashing bandwagon.

Well I didnt watch the BBC, Apart from Neighbours there honestly isnt another programme I want to watch on *that* channel. First I heard of this was when I read this thread. I agree it is very childish and quite pathetic of the BBC to try and stop people watch ITV. Its like what they did with the whole Richard Hillman storyline, running EE 2 mins late so people would miss the start of that crucial episode of Corrie. How pathetic of them to try this, they looked quite foolish when ITV got 20 million for this episode of Corrie!

I've never denied the fact im "ITV brigade" as you call it! LOL Very Happy

I found that unbilled news report quite useful. I didnt watch the game but I found it interesting to find out the score. The didn't watch BBC1 or ITV1, I brought out my Red Dwarf Season 6 VHS tape which I taped from UKGold in ITV Digitals final weeks. I'm not a sports fan but I was interested to see the score.

As for the BBC Bashing going on here. All I have to say is that I watch far more BBC than ITV (infact barely watched ITV at all, when they introduced the celeb idents i didnt notice until I came here Very Happy ). The BBC Licence fee is worth it for the professionalism of BBC and variety. ITV has police shows, game shows, celebrity shows, reality shows and 007 films. Repeated endlessly - not my type of channel

If the score was broadcast in a 'normal' news programme on BBC (or any channel) it would not have mattered.

BUT the fact is that the BBC INTENTIONALLY broadcast a short news bulletin giving details about the football match to INTENTIONALLY deter people from watching the match over on ITV1.

I do not see anything wrong with the decision as im sure ITV would have done something similar if the boot was on the other foot. The only thing I have a problem with is that the BBC is NOT a commercial broadcaster and does not need to keep kicking ITV where it hurts.

It is not a level playing field anymore where the BBC gets it's money regardless of performance therefore it's well done to ITV for bidding for the football rights and having a great weekend's worth of sport coverage.

ITV had Rugby World Cup, F1 Grand Prix and England v Turkey.

From the BBC's point of view it appears as sour grapes and all Grandstand could muster up was some snooker and horse racing! LOL

BBC standards ARE dropping and this is proved by the poor range of sports programmes shown on the channel.

If anyone is as fickle NOT to watch the England match on ITV1 because they heard the result in passing over on BBC1 - just goes to show that a) they arent a real supporter as they would've watched the match earlier on SKY or b) they are part of the BBC brigade.
