It was reported on here a while back.

I don't think that will happen. They are probably just going to build on the current branding adding new idents and other new presentation graphics.

The arrival of a new Head of Marketing usually heralds a new on air look. So when the latest one - the recently appointed Claire Salmon - settles in she will probably get her mits on it. She came from the AA ( as in cars not alcohol) so expect ITV will become the emergency TV service or something.....She has no previous track record in television so it will be interesting to see what she comes up with.
As for the bubbles - these things are usually subject to some suit's whims. Expect she likes the bubbles best.

ITV channels to be rebranded

Thursday September 1, 2005ITV's channels are to be given more individual identities as part of a rebranding of the network.
BBC Broadcast is working on a revamp of ITV's on-screen idents under the new marketing director, Clare Salmon.

It is thought that the traditional homogenous blue and yellow branding currently running across ITV1, 2 and 3 will disappear.

Instead, like the BBC's digital stations, the channels will be given specific on-screen identities which reflect their individual personalities.

It is understood that the first look at BBC Broadcast's work will emerge with ITV4, the channel targeted at men aged 25 to 44 that is due to be launched in November.

Last September ITV axed a celebrity campaign, which ran for two years. The brainchild of Ms Salmon's predecessor, Jim Hytner, it showed major ITV stars such as Chris Tarrant, Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly against a blue and yellow ITV set. They were replaced by clips of forthcoming programmes.

Mr Hytner, who resigned in June 2004 to take up a marketing post at Barclays Bank, admitted he got the idea for the celebrity trailers, and the blue and yellow square that makes up the ITV logo from the US.

In 1998 ITV developed a heart logo, the first time that the network's 14 regions had used a consistent logo.

An ITV spokeswoman said: "As announced earlier this year we are working with BBC Broadcasting to review the on-screen identity for the ITV family of channels. This is still very much work in progress."

Very interesting indeed. Worrying to see that this is still 'work in progress'; I was expecting a new identity some time this month!

Not possible - not with a new Head of Marketing who knows nothing about television .....

So which US channel has blue and yellow squares then?

I find all that quite strange. Don't ITV's channels already have individual identities, for example unlike what they say above, there is no yellow on ITV3. There's lots of black on ITV2, none on ITV1 etc

I think the only time they did have "homogenous blue and yellow branding" was when ITV2 had the exact same logo as ITV1.

It makes it sound as if all 4 channels will look nothing like each other using random colours for no particular reason! I'll still believe it when I see it. When Charles Allen mentions how much it will cost to change the logo Wink

Well, out of the current ITV idents I think ITV3 work the best. I do think the celebs worked much better for ITV1 than the promotional idents that replaced them, while even the hearts didn't get the chance they deserved.

The current ITV logo though has been around in some form or another since 1998,so it's had quite a good innings. I expect it will probably survive the revamp too, with just the channel logos / branding changing.

ITV1 could do alot worse than just making some primetime versions of the ITV Day idents - which are pretty good.

I wonder if they will "mock" the current BBC idents. ITV3 blobs anyone?
