I don't think there are any specials planned this weekend - to give everyone a bit of a rest.
As to the titles .. it sounds as if the template that is used to create running orders was changed when there were joint specials and it hasn't been changed back.
The instructions for the idents off the server are put in automatically .. they are not done each hour - although they can be changed manually.
But really - does it matter that much?

No it doesn't matter at all, infact I much prefer a change from the usual ident to the News 24 one. I was just wondering what was wrong, so thanks for explaining it to me Nicky:)

Well Phil Hayton has been on News 24 on Saturdays for well over a year I think. He is my favourite presenter on News 24.

When you say overnight ident do you mean a variation on the News 24 one or the BBC News generic used on BBC World and BBC News 24 at night? Only asking because I thought there was only two News 24 idents - the same but one shorter than the other.

The 'variation' one is just a short ident used only for *.30 and crossovers on BBC One. The BBC News one is used overnight. This is very similar to the BBC World News one, it has the same music, but it does have slight differences! On the overnight one, in the background are tiny place names spinning around, on the World News ones, they alternate between place names and 'WORLD'. Also, the world one has 'BBC WORLD' at the bottom of the final frame, whereas the overnight one has nothing, just 'BBC NEWS'.

I think BBC News 24, should be rebranded as just BBC News. As then they could have their own version of the BBC News ident but with the same overnight music. What do you think?

I suppose BBC News 24 differenciates between BBC News and the channel. In fact, I think the name is quite good. Why would we want BBC News titles on News 24 - I like the variation between the two!

Ooo, brand it always as BBC News? Shocked
If they did that, then they would have no reason to have National News!

I think News 24 is perfect the way it is. It has excellent presentation, excellent presenters, an excent gallery team, as it always runs smoothly with very little pres mistakes, and a catchy name.

Unfortunaltly the bbc has become some what of a joke this past few years. Its like the empire, once britain was the most poweful nation in the world, but because of its own ignorance and complaicncy, it fell. The bbc is no different, and i do fear for its future. The BBC was a once proud organisation, that had every other media organisation on the back foot. But now it just seems to be playing catch up.
Don't get me wrong, news 24 and bbc world have excellent faclities and wonderful theme tunes, but thats about it. When it comes to content, it sadly falls behind. I feel that the only reason people feel they like news 24 around here is because of its theme tunes, but thats about it. What people have to understand is that just because it has funky music, and imajantive titles, it does not make it great.
Well im glad i got that of my chest, i do hope the bbc do last, but from what ive been hearing, theyve lost a lot of public support these few years, and when the station relies on a TAX to exsist, things do not look good for the bbc!!!

Not going to get into a flame war about BBC funding snu11 - but :

Please remember that you only pay for the BBC services if you own a television (and thus have to pay your TV licence)

You pay for ITV services whether you have a television or not, everytime you buy something that has been advertised on television. ISTR some research that demonstrated that the average consumer pays significantly more for ITV than BBC - they just don't know it ...
