Im trying to found out some details about one of the Director of programmes at LWT: John Birt, Baron Birt

1976 - 1981 Micheal Grade
1981 - 1986: John Birt, Baron Birt
1987 -1990: Greg Dyke
1990 - 1993: Marcus Plantin

When John Birt,become LWT DoP in 1981 he cancelled Stanley baxter show in 1982, when he joined the BBC in 1987 he did the same again.

There was a piece about this on the net years ago but it since disappeared does anyone remember it?

You'd think looking at that post, that Birt had a downer on certain performers!

Mind you, if you had the choice between Baxter, Danny La Rue & Dame Edna, it would be Baxter every time.

The Beeb do have a couple of docs shown recently(one in Scotland only!) featuring Baxter stuff.

The ones I was refering to were The Many Faces Of Stanley Baxter & another one which was in 4:3 but I think David Tennant narrated it. It was shown in Scotland only, but shown nationwide via Sky BBC2 Scotland.

How on earth did I miss that, I just miss the cut off period for the iplayer!

The Tennant one was sometime last year, but The Many Faces was last Saturday.

I wonder what that one with Tennart was called?

If only I asked a few hours early, I would have caught the " the Many Faces" did anyone keep a copy? or know when it will be back on?

I might have got Alan Cumming & David Tennant mixed up.(Both being Scottish!)

I know the show was broadcast as a regional BBC2 Scotland programme, & I did tape it & transfer it to DVD, so it's in my collection somewhere!

I never even know about this programmes so at least you made me look for this wee gem.

I take it you never recorded Many faces? Its nly been shown once, you'll think it would have been given a repeat something since Saturday 5th, not even on BBC four.

I taped Many Faces too.
