Up until 1989 Corrie was only shown on Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm -I think the Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule was the best though.

When Emmerdale Farm went to 3 nights a week it was shown Tues, Wed, Thurs at 7.00pm.

Unless you were in STV land where it was 5.10pm (home & away at 6pm)

I say lets get more lavish show like Staley Baxter back on ITV!

Perhaps the best thing to do with ITV is to divide the country up into say 12-15 franchise areas and invite bidders for each franchise.

You could then forbid anyone to own more than one franchise and let the companies compete with each other to supply programmes to a national network while at the same time producing programmes to suit their franchise area.
This would give them a unique selling point in the bland multichannel world.

I believe it was the ending of that internal competitive market that destroyed ITV rather than regionalism per se. Ironically legislation that was intended to extend competition in fact killed a highly-productive competitive system within ITV, purely to fit a rigid and flawed political dogma.

Perhaps instead of blaming the existence of hundreds of minority-audience channels on reducing quality the answer to Sky is to be as different as possible from it, rather than working to make your package of channels as faceless as the rest?

I find the ITV1 Idents irritating espesh the one where the little ginger boy tries to feel the gap in his teeth with his tongue. Oh and the ident where the guy admires his big fat belly in the mirror

What you seem to be forgetting is that these idents are portraying a channel for the vast majority of the British public who, dare I say, are the 'great un-washed' 'chaves' 'scum' 'down-and-outs' 'Daily Star readers' a general C2DE audience demographic. The guy with the big fat beer belly is your typical ITV viewer, sits down with his plate of fish 'n chips and splashes tomato ketchup all over himself then nips down the local for a few pints and then staggers home to watch ITV Play thinking he's going to win a fortune!!

As for regional ITV, yes please bring it back. It's what was unique about ITV, along with its own identity, announcers and news coverage. Everyone who once worked in regional ITV knew that a networked ITV just would NOT work.

The new look certainly hasn't done the job it was supposed to do ...change the perception of ITV! Things seem have gone into a tailspin since the new idents were launched. ...wonder if this means Head of Marketing Clare Salmon will be on her way? She was a Charles Allen appointment I believe, from the AA. ( I expect she knew her stuff about cars and roads though, to give her her due. Laughing )

'Price Is Right' returns to primetime
Sunday, August 13 2006, 11:19 BST - by Daniel Kilkelly

The Price Is Right is returning to primetime, according to a report today.

The cult gameshow currently airs in the ITV1 teatime slot every weekday, hosted by I'm A Celebrity winner Joe Pasquale. Executives are now said to be commissioning 30 one-hour shows which will air on Saturday nights later this year.

A source told The People, "They've already commissioned 150 shows but the 30 new ones are destined for Saturdays. It's a closely guarded secret but it's got ratings winner written all over it."

The Price is Right is the worse thing to hit ITV Daytime since, well, probably ever! Even daytime Catchphrase and daytime Family Fortunes were better!

The "so bad it's good" thing worked well for the Gameshow Marathon when the idea was to look back on these shows with a nostalgic embarrasment - but as a genuine game show of the 21st century it is nothing but painfully dated!

The Price is Right is good, but I hardly watch it because the slot its in isnt really convenient for me. And why show 2 episodes a day?

i think it could be good on a Saturday night

The over the top upbeat screaming and shouting will probably work better on a Saturday night than in a daytime slot. I expect they will be able to increase the budget for the Showcase Showdown as well
