Is it me or do ITV1 seem to keep using the same ident a lot more than the others - the one with the people hugging the trees (love I think it's called). Having said that, a rare one was used into Taggart this evening, the one with the man in the cinema. But the tree huggers was used three times tonight.
they need to get rid of this s*** itv1 idents, all this emotional nonsense of hugging a tree, good grief
The soundtrack to that ident isn't too bad though.
I actually like the current set of ITV1 idents. I think they're quite fresh looking. It would be better if there were more and they varied the times at which they play them; I also keep seeing the same ones again and again. They'll get boring pretty quickly if they aren't varied. However, idents are not really the answer to ITV's problems. They've changed their look enough times over the last few years. Another rebrand would make them look quite desperate and would just be a waste of money. What's the use in wrapping up something with an elaborate covering if it's empty inside? People don't generally watch a tv channel for its idents, but for its programmes, and if they're rubbish, they won't watch. Surely this is the issue? There are too many soaps, too many celeb shows. Everything's watered down on the assumption that the viewer has no attention span. The quiz shows are only about generating money - the questions on the latest shows are not the least bit challenging, and the presenter stands there talking rubbish for the entire duration whilst people desperate for money are encouraged to ring in, and wait on hold, whilst their bank balance decreases. There's very little on the channel to engage or challenge the viewer. I can't rememeber the last time I watched something on ITV1 and thought 'wow, that was good'. When they do get a hit show, they have so many series in quick succession that the viewer gets bored and the programme gets axed because its over-relied upon as a quick viewer-boost. A variety of good quality programmes: news (without 'reminders' of the headlines, desperate 'exclusives' or constant 'coming up later' reminders), drama, documentaries, quiz shows which aren't designed to appeal solely to morons, fewer soaps, political programmes, well executed lifestyle shows, regional programming, comedy (I can't even think of any decent comedies on ITV at the moment), period dramas, tv adaptations of novels, music programmes, variety shows, live shows, performances and events, quality movies (not the same James Bond films year after year), etc, etc. This is what they ought to be turning their attention towards, otherwise more of us will just switch off, and what use are fancy idents and a shiny new logo then?
...and to pick up on something someone said earlier about the BBC. The Royal Charter does not make it state-owned or run. The licence fee makes it ours - we own the BBC because we pay for it. Do you really think the govt. determines its output? Think dodgy dossier scandal, "sexed up", Hutton Report.....??
Cut down the soaps to 4 times a week,Otherwise it will kill them off (If it hasn't already)
Agreed. They need to cut down Corrie to Mon, Wed, Fri at 7.30pm and Emmerdal to Tues, Wed, Thurs at 7.00pm.
I agree with the above "plan". ITV also needs to stop the reality programming (as mentioned elsewhere in this thread) and think of something new and fresh. More drama-like programming would help (they seem to be
very
good at doing one-off dramas). The news coverage needs to be more formal; apart from breaking news stories and the like, a normal 30-minute bulletin on ITV seems to be what The Sun would be like if it had news programming.
ITV1 has too many soaps in the evenings, I like them but not that much. Even though this programme is out, I think they should make MORE of House of Horrors (the rouge traders) and make some of the good classic gameshows come back a bit more. Maybe a bit of "bully" on a Sunday.
I am so tired of seeing repeats of Who Wants to be a Millionnaire and the X Factor

I agree with you, also i think there should axe millionnaire!
Re-organise listings for all channels. ITV1: Bring dramas back - Cut reality rubbish - Bring some comedies - More riegonal programming - More from CITV. And plenty more needed..
Seeing as I've only recently looked into the past ITV, I would agree with the (now near impossible) idea of putting more emphasis on the regional identities. This could include bringing back various symbols (the Central cake, the LWT zig zag) and more regional announcers, as well as locally produced shows, like Anglia's Sale of the Century.
It's more idealistic than anything, but for quality over quantity, which seems to be the case with Love Island and the like, it would probably be a better solution.
I find the ITV1 Idents irritating espesh the one where the little ginger boy tries to feel the gap in his teeth with his tongue. Oh and the ident where the guy admires his big fat belly in the mirror
