Ive got one of an old disney film - Escape from the Dark. It was on ITV or Tyne Tees as it was then. It had an announcer introducing it in-vision and all the Tyne Tees idents but the most interesting bit was that it has an ITN News Flash at the end about an IRA Bomb going off. Then after that there was an ITN special on Prince Charles and Dianna going to Germany.

I recently found a tape with a Scottish Television ident that I'd never seen before. Basically it starts with a shot of a castle with bagpipes playing, before fading into the Thistle logo with a back background.

On the same tape theres a few Channel 4 idents for an Animation Day. Using footage of Wallace and Gromit's A Grand Day Out and War Story with the C4 logo added. Theres a short Scotland Today bulletin in there too.

Another old tape has some complete Stay Tooned episodes, and also has the first airing of the Simpsons ep where Homer grows hair and becomes an exec.

Another tape has a BBC1 Scotland COW closedown with menu.

At the end of a family homevideo from like....1988, theres the end of a Postman Pat episode with a short musical break w/caption before leading into the TWO logo w/countdown.

Theres also a 1989 tape with some clips of kids shows on it, mostly Glen Michaels' Cavalcade and Ghost Train stuff. Has an episode of Rainbow on it too where Sooty makes a cameo. Also features an early You've Been Framed episode. Also has a DEFII promo leading into the TWO ident.

I'm pretty sure theres also a BBC1 closedown on one of the tapes featuring a portrait of the Queen instead of an ident. Also features TCF.

Another tape has a few things taped from The Children's Channel. Theres also a tape with mostly Cartoon Network from around 1997. At the end of that tape, theres the infamous incident in the Hungarian Grand Prix where Damon Hill, in the crap Arrows car, took the lead whilst ITV were showing adverts.

Another tape has a recording of Take Your Pick from around 1991, with a late-night Blondie movie season also featuring. (Complete with ad breaks) There was also a late night ITN news bulletin on the tape, but someone taped over it.

I had another tape with alot of CBBC stuff circa 1990, but I've misplaced it. Sad

More recently, I have some tapes with clips of BBC2 Ceefax breaks and the occasional clock.

Most of the tapes are showing their age however, so I rarely watch them incase it does any damage.

Take the advice from one of the previous posters, copy the best stuff/ the stuff you may watch, onto a new tape and just simply bin the tapes or keep them in storage or something.

I did that, took the best TV bits I recorded and copied them onto one tape that's currently about 7 hours in length!

But as times have changed, why not copy your stuff onto DVD?

Much better!

Although I've never found anything pre-89 as I've said before, I've been swapping tapes with others on and off for about 2 years and a bit, so I've got some good compilations of 60s-90s stuff. The only problem being quality, which is pretty bad on some of them.

Mainly stuff from Granada in the 1990's, alot of Sky from the late 1990's, a bit of BBC and Channel 4 thrown in too. As in the room I am sitting in I have about 100 tapes, most of them taped in the last 10 years or so, the majority of them programmes, some being stuff I just recorded on the spur of the moment for the sake of it, i.e. Idents etc.

The only reason the tape is in LP, is that the majority of stuff I taped in the late 1990's was in LP, when at the time I couldn't tell the difference. If I tape anything now it's usually in SP, but I have a DVD recorder now, so I might copy some of my old stuff onto it, especially the SP quality stuff.

Yep - got that too! Recorded it and pulled the tab off so I don't go over it!

In my 'timeline', 1999 isn't that far back..... sigh....

There's another total solar eclipse in 2006, in Turkey so if you want a second bite of the eclipse cherry, go travel and enjoy!

I'm off to see what's known as an 'annular eclipse' of the sun later this year in Madrid! Happens round my birthday too!
