either way, if you get found out not doing either you will be sufficiently b**gerred (not in any literal way).. so I guess that both are not good if you don't pay and display. On that note, you should always pay and display at car parks... always tip waiters and Spanish bus drivers, I'd say that is more wrong.

Think about it. Say you take you car on the Road with out paying the tax that is more wong than watch TV without pay tv tax,

But you should not watch BBC if you do not pay the TAX ,like you should not take you car out on the road if you do not pay road tax.

Road tax is to slowly disappear as congestion charges slowly spreads across the country and the other form of road tax (pence per mile - pay as you go!!) - it may be wrong not to pay and it is a criminal offence butu it is the norm and does not directly affect the conusmer (except maybe having to pay more taxes on other products!!)

TV LIcence, how much of the licence money actually goes to the BBC and how much goes to the government - that is what you ahve to look at. IT is not quite the golden goose for the BBC which YOU may think it is. Anyway if morwe and more people didn't pay the licence how many of the radio stations would survive, how many of the non-populist programmes (which have to be made due the PSB rules) would be made (remember Coast started off as a non-populist programme but became very popular - if the licence didn't exist would that programme have ever been made????? - I somehow doubt it, again would Only Fools and Horse survived past its first and dire series - and I'm not a OFAH fan either but see its popularity). Would there be an interactive service, would children's programmes be flourishing like they do on the BBC, would experimental programming exist on the BBC.

If it wasn't for the licence fee then the BBC wouldn't be able to do half of what it does and what we would be left with is just another dire television network trying to grab a slice of a very small advertising pie. There would be no rich mix of programming, news and current affairs could possibly be very lightweight, etc...

BBC has a worldwide reputation, why??? because of its diversity in programming, its neutrality in politics (another good show which wouldn't have existed is This Week if there was no licence fee) and most importantly its quality reputation - can you name any broadcaster than can exist in an advertising world that shows ALL these qualities in real depth.

If it was based on the licence fee we would only have 2 channels, with BBC1 showing lightweight new, soaps, quizzes, and lifestyle shows with much much more emphasis on chasing ratings than what they do at the moment, whilst BBC2 would possibly concentrate on repeats.
