Have we missing anything?!
Sorry for the lack of a site for a few days. On Wednesday our hosts suffered a brief power outage mid-afternoon. It didn’t sound too serious so I was fully expecting the site to be back within a few hours, no harm done. Details from their parent company seem to suggest there was another, more serious outage and faulty hardware. Unfortunately support tickets were largely ignored, phone calls permanently in a queue and the status page infrequently updated. Problems happen, it’s how you deal with them that shows good customer service and they’ve been extremely poor. The best contact has been on Twitter, which is a little alarming.
With no fix in sight I signed up for some basic hosting on Thursday and quickly uploaded the main files and database. Thankfully lessons had long been learned from the 2003 data loss so there has been a daily off-site backup, meaning at most we’d lose that day’s posts. Ironically until fairly recently there was a ghost version of the forum sat on tvfi.co.uk ready and waiting for such an eventuality but I then cancelled the hosting. It had never been needed. I’ll obviously re-review that decision!
I’d been debating whether to hang on but my patience had completely gone by Saturday night so I signed up with a new permanent host. We're now with them and their support have been excellent in getting it up and running. The previous hosts said the site had been restored Monday morning but you'll have probably seen the error message for most of the day. The control panel was completely broken and their database fix (for us to do!) didn't work. I'm still waiting for a reply to that ticket.
Thanks to everyone who came across to tvfi.co.uk and hopefully normal service can now be resumed.
