Here a question about LWT , which could be apply to the other compaines who took the feed.

LWT did not employ anyone after 1am, I'E when "Night Network" started, I believe it was all rerecord with the adverts slipped in as well,

So how did there found the money to keep person on to run ch4 at night but not there own main channel, unless the tapes where just left to run

Up until Dec 31 1992 each ITV company (with the exception of Channel) were responsible for providing the ad breaks on C4 in their respective regions. That was because ITV paid for the running of C4, but in return kept the ad revenue. STV and Grampian provided the C4 ads separately from Glasgow and Aberdeen. HTV Cardiff provided the ads on S4C.

From Jan 1 1993, C4 became responsible for selling and transmitting their own ads, and started to become self financing. From that point they operated 6 macro regions for ads, all played out from London. That arrangement continues to this day.

Don't forget even TV-am sold airtime on Channel 4 aswell, they controlled the 6.00-9.25am advertising, hence why the 9.25am switch was also common on Channel 4 up until the end of 1992, come 1993, they didn't need this anymore.

LWT had no live CA, but that's not to say that they didn't have transmission controllers and other technical staff on-site at all times.

There should have gotten one of the Tech staff to do CA

What's your obsession with ' CA'? You do realise that an announcer is just one person in a big team of people putting a channel out? Overnight it really isn't an issue, especially in the days when they had a 3 hour programme going out

There would almost certainly have been someone looking after the playout of LWT overnight, especially as it was running across several other stations.

Simple, because it would have been better To have NO CA instead of having Same pre-recovered, playing over and over and over again.

Im still no closer to found the rest of the answers, there is nice clip of Meridian night time 93 on YT

Not a good idea lol.

This reminds me of one night in 1993, just after transmission was moved from Newcastle to Leeds. At this point, to say that the new centre was "finding its feet" was perhaps a little overcharitable.

Anyway, toward the end of First Tuesday it all went a bit pear-shaped (not unusual at this point). YTV had no announcer available (but plenty of technical staff) and no recorded message to cover the fault it would seem.

At this point, they cut to an unbranded holding slide, and a gentleman with the broadest West Yorkshire accent I have ever heard read out a standard apology.

Not the most professional-sounding announcement I've ever heard I have to say!

But that is what they did do.

I think your 'research' is getting bogged down in continuity announcing... it's mostly irrelevant (in this context)
