Pity it didn't continue really. I suppose that some of the regions that took the service might have objected -- all were dyed-in-the-wool IVC operators at that point and might have thought their identity would have been diluted by a separate set of personable announcers taking over after midnight.
Probably more likely just that it was too expensive to justify once they realised that overnights don't pull in the viewers or the cash
Well Pop Idol was produced by the same Thames that produced The Bill, This is your Life & Family Affairs throughout the 90's, so therefore there is some continuity. It was Thames' involvement in Pop Idol which led to TalkbackThames having a hand in production of The X Factor.

Neither Pop Idol or The X Factor are solely TalkbackThames productions though, Pop Idol was produced with 19 and X Factor/Britain's Got Talent are Syco productions.
Even taking that into account the connection is tenuous, there is very little connection between the current incarnation of Thames and the ITV broadcaster

Yep, the ownership of it's intellectual property is about the only thing that connects the two, I doubt there's many ex-Thames TV staff members left in the company (maybe a few on The Bill)

Well there are still some unanswered questions, any ideas?
* What is the pin point date: Granada service get axed in summer of 1995?
* Info about the London feed from 1993/1994 ( there not even any clips of it around)
* Info about UNM Companies between 94 - 2000 and HTV and West country service between 96 - 00
There is very little information about both of these services.

but im hopeful. along with the pin point date: of the Granada service get axed in summer of 1995?
Anyone catch STV's "The Nightshift"? I stumbled in on it quite drunk about 2am on Sunday morning and was thoroughly confuzzed by it all.
This seems to be three hours (2am to 5am) filled with segments. A woman (out-of-vision) readers viewer txts and emails over pictures of scenery (think Scotland: Edge of the Land) with a backing bed over it. Felt like listening to the radio with generic images on screen.
This puzzled me a lot, but then there were "STV: The Nightshift" stings into other segements which included a cheapo £50 Watch to Win and then a rehashed interview from The Hour. Then the mysterious woman came back on reading out messages from neds in Cumbernauld and the like.
Bit odd really. I gave it half an hour then drifted through to bed.
Obviously this is new - anyone know more? Will it only be on at weekends? I also think I preferred the banter of the STV Casino late at night. At least you could try guess the numbers when a bit tipsy.
