Pam Fi Duw was good.

I remember Pam Fi Duw - it must be about 10 years ago now since I watched it. I hadnt even realised it wasnt on anymore!

Firstly, 623058 , I think you mean gaelic ? As a Welshman who lives in Scotland, I feel very proud and thankful that the Welsh language is as prominent as it is in Wales, unlike Scotland where the Scottish Gaelic output is almost insignificant in its quantity, and is only broadcast in lieu of some English programmes on BBC2.

yeah but people actually speak Welsh.

I used to love Pam Fi Duw? Other great programmes that I have watched on S4/C are CNEX, Jonathon, Dinas, Wawwfactor, Jac Rhyw ac Dinosaws (or something like that!) and the current series of Caerdydd.

There really are some great programmes on there which are totally watchable via the subtitles button. Its only compiling that list that I realised that I still watch some S4/C programming - which surprised me - probably more that BBC1!

I'm glad people do watch S4/C. It is a great channel, considering its size and audience.

It is available all over the UK on SKY channel Channel 104 (in Wales) or Channel 135 (rest of UK ) and also on Virgin Media (S4C digidol) Channel 194

Oh I would give it a go, I just don't have Sky, Virgin Media don't carry the channel outside of Wales and I get a weak reception when picking up a signal from Moel Y Parc.

I used to watch Pam Fi Duw without fail - easily the best teen drama ever made in Britain.

Ended in scandalous circumstances though which I best not go in - there is rumours there actually another series was made but following the accusations made and suspicious death of the creator, it was never shown. It's never been repeated since either - and doesn't seem to be available on DVD or VHS anywhere now either!

Also watched Uned 5 and iDot occassionally, plus the odd event but in the last few years unfortunately nothing has grabbed my attention enough to make me tune in.

It's also more of a hassel now as I had to unplug my Welsh aerial to get a better reception on Freeview.

Well yes I don't think it was a rumour, there was another series made.

In my opinion, most of the strength of PFD was in the adult support cast, the nan and of course Brian Hibbard, who seems to play the exact same character in Pobol Y Cwm now, with the same broken language [not that I watch that you understand].

The series also involved Terry Dyddgen-Jones, who is still a main writer of Coronation Street.

True - something which is also a strength of the popular US teen dramas.

Yes indeed, lol. Actually, he came to give a talk to us in school about the series not long before he died. I was never a massive fan of PFD, I think it must have clashed with something else that I liked. My parents (including my non-Welsh speaking Father) used to like it quite a lot.

C'mon Midffild, made by Ffilmiau'r Nant, is another first class S4C programme - really makes me howl at times!

I don't think it's the fact that S4/C produce rubbish, it's just the fact that the vast majority of people on the Forum cannot understand the Welsh language and choose not to watch S4/C for this, or they can't get access to the service. I'm sure they do a fine job, I don't understand a word of Welsh.

It's not that difficult. Here's a handy translation guide:

Ambiwlans - Ambulance
Plant - Children
Miwsig - Music
Sied - Shed
Rygbi - Rugby
Stadiwm - Stadium
Bocs - Box
Tri - Three
Gem - Game
Trenau - Trains

Very amusing. It reminded me of when Grampian used to show five minutes of Gaelic news at 6pm before North Tonight. I was at college at the time and me and my flat mates used to bet on the first English word you could hear. The top two most used ( said in a Gaelic accent of course ) were microcomputer and helicopter.

And Alexia , "Music" is Cerddoriaeth or Cerdd , depending on the context. Miwsig is a South Welsh "Welsh-i-fying" of the English word, but is not standard Welsh and would never be used as such.

You obviously missed the crux of my post - i.e. dripping in irony.

I must have missed that particular bit of irony as well, then.

If you're going to do irony on the Welsh language, please try to do it properly.
