Currently browsing Teletext (the poor mans internet) at the moment with Central News at Six (South) on in the background and every time I select a new page, there is a message that keeps randomly flashing on the top header.

I press hold and it read...

"HOLD SOFTEL D1 SUBTITLE INSERTED "

Bit annoying with the regular flashing on the eye though. But who are Softel? This is the first time I've seen this on a subtitled programme though but it seems the header is having a fit!

Same on page 888 on both Central East and Yorkshire East.

Softel make teletext inserters (the devices that insert tetetext into television pictures) among other things.

Obviously one has gone wrong somewhere and is defaulting to that message

The 'SOFTEL' thing is usually common whilst accessing P888 on Teletext on a channel on Digital TV, usually Sky One/Movies, Disney and Paramount.

I don't think anyone in teletext in the ITV regions has the remotest CLUE as to how to operate the system.

Round here, all the pages have been changed so they say "ITV1 WEST" in the heading on the page. The "header stream" has been changed so the absolute top line, where the number is, shows "ITV West".

Bit of a problem though, the idiots have kept the "service name" which comes up across the picture when you change channel to it, as "HTV WEST".

Never let a branding change get in the way of a good cock-up, as someone in the NUJ NEARLY said!

Teletext are to axe their Glasgow office with the loss of up to 14 jobs. They are also closing their main website and ditching services to cable viewers.
Scottish football will be reported on from London, with other sport and Scottish news being covered by the PA in Glasgow, more here.
