I put the telly on at 1:30 earlier, and I accidently pressed 7 instead of 3. I was surprised to see the BBC Regional titles, and then 'Points West' appear on the screen. Now, I live about as far south as you can get in England, how did I get that? Confused

Has anyone else ever seen programs from another region on their tv?

Yes!

Midlands Today, East Midlands Today, Look North, Look East, South Today, Newsroom South East and Wales Today.

All that here in the Midlands. Smile
I'm not showing off, honest! Wink

The Mendip transmitter which broadcasts Points West is at 500kW, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if you picked up Mendip with a decent signal. What region do you receive normally and from what transmitter?

Most people can pick up more than one transmitter in their area but there are many factors which affect it. The aerial in the right direction and the right band aerial is need to pick up a decent signal. What it probably is, you point your aerial to the North West or in that general direction which means that beyond your local transmitter is Mendip which broadcasts Points West and you can probably get a good signal from it because your aerial is in roughly the right direction.

Either that or you have another aerial equipped to pick up Mendip.

Please tell me if I'm wrong. Smile

Does anyone have any idea how I could get Anglia East from North London?

Would have to be pointing at Sudbury - which I assume has channels on the other band? to Sandy Heath which is in the 21-34 area.

You're best bet is to buy a wideband aerial and point roughly North East and get a signal from Sudbury. You might need a masthead amplifier though, to make the signal better.

Although, unless you already receive it, you could get Anglia West and Look East Close Up from Sandy Heath which should be roughly North and I can almost guarentee that you will pick up from that transmitter.

Visit: http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tva.exe? and enter in your OS grid reference which can be found from http://www.streetmap.co.uk

Enter your post code and then when you've found it click near the bottom where is says, click here to convert these co-ordinates. Its the Landranger Grid (LR) co-ordinate that you want. Then you can enter that into the UK analogue TV reception page.

It then gives you a bearing, and a distance from the transmitter. All being well, you should be able to pick up from any of those transmitters listed. Although, you might not get the ones nearer the bottom. They are in VERY IDEAL conditions.

Remember, to receive these you need a wideband aerial pointing in the right direction and possibly a masthead amplifier, I would recommend one anyway, improves your signal a lot!

Remember you might not receive from a few of them, even if they are close because of natural features and the calibration of the transmitter, but I think you will be surprised what you can get.

Finally, I would recommend an aerial rotator. Just fir your aerial to it and then you can turn the aerial from inside your house, and it means you only need one wideband aerial. Wink

You can probably get another region too, just put an unused channel number on your telly (I used 7) and fiddle about with the tuning. See what you find!

What really bugs me is, after using that info James mentioned (thanks James), it comes up as I should have Bluebell Hill. Now, the problem is that there's a big load of trees in that direction and according to the tv engineer, no signal can be received from that direction.

So we get our signal from Dover, and according to that website, it's 'Extreme outer fringe' (probably right, we did need an expensive booster*) and yet Crystal Palace (with the lovely Carlton/LWT) is next on the list underneath Bluebell, classed as 'Amplified extra hi-gain'.

I want Carlton!! It's a cruel world Smile

Cheers, Asa

* personally I think the engineer wanted more money by saying we can't get a signal from Bluebell, hence buy his booster, but hey, my parents wont listen to me!

I thought I'd add my two penneth. I live in South Yorkshire and get a brilliant picture from YTV - from Emley - but also don't get a bad YTV South and East.

I can even get Tyne Tees on a good day! When I say good day, I mean when I bother moving my aerial. (This is from a portable in my bedroom)
