Hi,

Does anyone know what the proper name is for the clicker weather presenters have?

I have tried on a search engine, but had no luck.

I hope someone can help.

Thank you. Smile

When the ITV weather was at LNN they were called "Plungers" and they were made in-house.
I haven't seen one commercially available, though I guess they probably are somewhere.

There isn't a proper name for it. It's just a switch which is connected to the graphics computer to tell it to move on to the next screen.

Hi both of you,

Oh right, thanks for both of your replies.

Thanks again. Smile

Most BBC weather forecasters simply call it the clicker !

...and I might be wrong but (ahem) I was paying particular attention to Angie Phillips' "clicker" on Newsline the other night and hers seems to be a little pebble-shaped remote control device these days.

I hope you find my observations useful. Laughing

Following on from this question, does anyone know why they're still on the end of a bit of wire, when practically every other similar device is on radio, infra-red, or some other wireless method of communication?

maybe because every other device is on rf or IR - no interference

Dave Gorman uses a wireless clicker for his powerpoint presentation on his Googlewhack adventure tour. Surely the waether is a glorified version of powerpoint (I know it's probably a lot more powerful and expensive but the concepts the same!)

So i don't see why they can't be wireless?

Wasn't the BBC supposed to be changing it's presentation soon on weather forcasts? When's it happening?

Some of them clearly are wireless...

A hard wired device is much more reliable than a wireless device that is prone to batteries running out, interference and reception problems.
