Like a few others on here - I now feel that it is the right time for CBBC to switch channels in the afternoon and leave daytime programming to BBC1.
Cbeebies/CBBC could run on BBC2 from 315pm to 5pm
BBC Switch (5pm to 7pm) would include......
5pm Newsround
510pm MWF - Blue Peter, UKool, Why Don't You
510pm Tu - Grange Hill, Byker Grove and other TEEN drama
510pm Th - Ipso Facto, The Lowdown other Teen Factual series
535pm US Comedy series UNTIL new BBC-commissioned Aussie soap is ready to be screened
6pm Strictly Come Dancing - It Takes 2; Blockbuster; Other Teen Entertainment Series
630pm M - Entertainment Weekly (based on the old Liquid News)
630pm Tu, Th - Various British Teen Series
630pm W - Top Of The Pops
630pm F - Kick Off (new football magazine show); The Sports Show (Summer sports magazine show)
It's been done before hasn't it? It was going to be axed until they noticed it was doing well in it's 'temp' slot?
Yeah, didn't they air Doctors in the 7pm slot at one point?
ISTR they showed the first couple of episodes on a Sunday night about 7pm-ish, basically to show off the programme, but then it's regular slot from October 2000 (same day Breakfast launched BTW) was 12.30pm, but due to 9/11, the 12.30pm slot was used for News 24, so Doctors had to move to 2.05pm where surprisingly the ratings improved.
It seems that with the shifting of CBBC and Weakest Link taking over the 5.15 slot, there will be a couple of other changes in the schedule.
According to the Radio Times, the lunchtime regional news will now be extended to 15 minutes, finishing at 1.45 for Doctors as opposed to 1.40 (although it often seems to end closer to this time than the latter anyway). Newsround will move to 5.00 and also be extended to 15 minutes.
I would have expected Doctors to keep the 1.40 slot to enable it to gain a lead amongst those viewers who would otherwise switch over to Five after the regional news - after all, Five have very conveniently scheduled it so that that is still possible.
Sorry for dredging up this ancient thread, but I don't suppose anyone "in the know" knows how many viewers the Weakest Link got last night (March 3rd)?
I don't know about last night specifically, but it had been getting around 2.2m since it moved to BBC1, down from 2.7m when it was on BBC2.
And as a knock on effect CBBC's audience is said to be down by over half, with programmes struggling to get 300,000 - compared to some which got 800,000 in the 5pm slot.
Considering BBC2 haven't overhauled their schedule to complement The Weakest Link (they're effectively competing with it now, and putting a huge dent in it's audience) - plus with BBC1 still considering other options for the 5.30pm slot, I think this will probably be a pretty short term move and it wouldn't surprise me if by the autumn Link was back on BBC2.

Well isnt the BBC supposed to be showing a new soap set in Oz from April so that might take the 5.30pm slot up against Neighbours on Five.
