They should have just moved things about a bit;

3pm - CBBC
5.30pm - The One Show
6pm - BBC News
6.30pm - Regional News
7pm - Inside Out / Watchdog / Regional Programme
7.30pm - EastEnders (Tues, Thurs) and other days DIY SOS, Question Of Sport, etc

The One Show won't move, it does really well at 7pm and picks up most of its audience from the regional news.

If Weakest Link is moving to BBC One, maybe it should have a slight revamp. The current format's really bores me now.

BBC2 will probably put bloody Animal Park or something like that in that slot now... yippee Rolling Eyes

Despite what BBC bosses say, this move suggests CBBC on One's days are numbered. Losing most of the 5-5.35pm slot is a major blow and will no doubt be another (if not the final) nail in the coffin of Blue Peter and similar. Expect a service not dissimilar to the final year of CITV on ITV1 soon.

The best solution would be to move CBBC across to Two. One takes all the daytime carp and CBBC gets to keep it's slot.

Completely agree. Considering they've moved the Saturday morning shows to BBC2, I think moving CBBC in the afternoon is much less of an issue. Perhaps to compensate they should move the Saturday shows back to BBC1 so the channel has some childrens output.

Do we think then Blue Peter etc. will move to 4.40pm, with Newsround at 5.05pm - or do we think Newsround will be pushed back even earlier so the 5pm shows are only bought forward by 10 minutes.

Personally I think they should have opted for reruns of something like Malcolm in the Middle in the 5.35pm slot - and I think they've got one or two unseen series too.

One of the best US comedies in recent years too, and a good show to have immediately after CBBC to hold on to the audience, while also being grown up enough to attract an older audience too.

It's now official...
The Weakest Link moves to BBC One as part of a new look for Daytime on BBC One and Two
Quote:
BBC One will continue to broadcast 130-minutes of uninterrupted world class CBBC and CBeebies programmes every weekday afternoon.

When is this change going to happen? I'm going to be on the Weakest Link soon (recorded in November)... and I was hoping I'd be hidden away on a minority channel and not just before the news on BBC One!

From what it says in this week's Radio Times (Letters page cartoon), Neighbours moves to Channel 5 in March.

edit @Psythor: I'm not sure... there's no fixed time frame for recorded game shows going out. It varies, as recording tends to be a batch process, eg they will do five a day for five days and then not start again for three weeks. Then there are other breaks in filming, due to illness, studio inavailability, etc. So it's not really possible to work out when your forty-five minutes of fame will be broadcast without actually phoning up the producer and asking if he/she knows when it's on.

That said, the pre-Six o'Clock News slot was once a regular quiz show slot. Masterteam with Angela Rippon aired (I think) three nights a week and was basically a pub quiz on the telly with two teams pitted against each other in a general knowledge type of thing. ISTR the other two nights per week were usually filled with BBC Manchester's "Fax"

Almost - Masterteam ran five days a week throughout the autumns of 1985, 1986 and 1987. Fax did run twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) in the early part of the year, but shared the slot with programmes like Rolf Harris Cartoon Time, Go For It! and First Class.

First Class with Debbie Greenwood - now that's a blast from the past! Kids on telly playing Paperchase and Olympics on games consoles (Ataris?) ... brilliant! Excellent theme tune by Mike Oldfield too.

Thanks for the info - I thought Masterteam was stripped across the week, but had read on the net somewhere (TV Bits?) that it shared a slot with Fax...

If I remember correctly, Go For It! was all about exercise and fitness, and aired in early-1987. This was in the days when Gordon the Gopher had a cult following in the Broom Cupboard and I particularly remember one link out of Children's BBC into the programme:

"Now on BBC1, Gordon the Gopher's favourite show - Gopher It!" Laughing

They should have shortened the Weakest link to 30 mins, starting at 5:30. They could have used this opportunity to revamp and refresh the Weakest Link, giving it a new look, less contestants, new music, etc. I just don't know why they haven't updated anything to do with the show in years, it's become so stale now!

Don't see this being any good, Think the guys at the BBC could have came up with something better?

I would have done,

3:30pm - 5:30pm CBBC
5:30pm - 6pm Doctors
6pm - 7pm News
7pm - 7:30pm The One Show
