Slightly disappointed with this One (pun) to be honest.

A real lack of originality and imagination on the part of the BBC’s flagship channel... in my humble opinion.

If they're planning a new aussie soap (that will muck up the schedule again when it arrives), wouldn't they have been better to use a 30 minute filler, even if it were to repeat Doctors in the afternoon.

As I posted in some other thread recently, I'm totally bored otf The Weakest Link now. The format is tired, the 'jokes' repetitive and to be honest it would serve BBC One right for having no imagination or balls if it bombed in the slot and quietly disappeared.

That said, the pre-Six o'Clock News slot was once a regular quiz show slot. Masterteam with Angela Rippon aired (I think) three nights a week and was basically a pub quiz on the telly with two teams pitted against each other in a general knowledge type of thing. ISTR the other two nights per week were usually filled with BBC Manchester's "Fax" - a format suspiciously similar to the later Des Lynam/Jenny Hull classic "How Do They Do That?". What the BBC's Truth Police would think of such a programme now is anyone's guess...

Infact wouldn't Eggheads have been a better idea, the format could grow, its not as tired as the weakest link.
Plus they could revamp the idea (quickly) with a new host (now that Dermot is at Sky News), and add an audience (if they really want one).

So has Dermot left Eggheads? Can't he do both? Eamon does BBC shows.

I reckon they'll put a few Weakest Link Celebrity specials on to begin with.

That is true, I can't confirm anything. And Eamonn wasn't working mainly for the BBC before leaving for Sky.

Another poor, unimaginative decision.

As already stated, The Weakest Link seems stale, probably due, as much, to copycat 'nasty' shows. Doctors, Eggheads, something new or a revised version of the waste of prime-time space that is The ONE Show would have been preferable.

I don't like the further sidelining of children's television either.

According to an article I read (Can't remember which one) before Dermot joined Sky News, apparently, he will still be allowed to present Eggheads.

I am happy with this. It will give the Weakest Link some more recognition. It just needs some new music and updated titles but keeping the 'chain' motive and logo (and Anne of course). Add a studio audience (permanantly) and a couple of doors at the back for the weakest links* to go through instead of awkwardly walking around the podiums (it will also be better looking this way).

Neighbours is a horrible soap (don't fight me), now that the logo was changed. It is just like Coronation Street - to 'jokey'.

Also there should be a 'auto-bank' half way through the chain so they can get more money.

*Well they are supposed to be the weakest links but normally they vote of the bestest [sic] players.

Almost - Masterteam ran five days a week throughout the autumns of 1985, 1986 and 1987. Fax did run twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) in the early part of the year, but shared the slot with programmes like Rolf Harris Cartoon Time, Go For It! and First Class.

First Class with Debbie Greenwood - now that's a blast from the past! Kids on telly playing Paperchase and Olympics on games consoles (Ataris?) ... brilliant! Excellent theme tune by Mike Oldfield too.

Thanks for the info - I thought Masterteam was stripped across the week, but had read on the net somewhere (TV Bits?) that it shared a slot with Fax...

Not sure I remember Go For it ... someone remind me...
