Just noticed that Channel 5 have changed their schedule for next Tuesday. After the first episode of "All Creatures Great and Small" they are still showing their retrospect of "Are You Being Served" but a few days ago the EPG said that after the documentary they were going to show the 1977 movie version. Instead there is a Jo Brand documentary. Can anyone tell me why the schedule has been changed?

I suspect the EPG was wrong. Often happens.

Presumably to annoy you. Wink

Anyway EPGs have been wrong before and they'll be wrong again. Schedules aren't fixed things, "we're airing this at 9pm come hell or high water" after all.

The name probably wasn't finalised (and knowing C5, still won't be) and some automation just linked it to the 1977 film. It happens quite commonly - there is a film called Swimming which often gets billed whenever a channel places Swimming in their EPG with no further details.

Anyway, looks like the same old **** from C5 trading on the hits of other channels, probably with a bunch of 20 and 30 somethings sharing their memories of a sitcom from 40-50 years ago.

I think they also aired "We love Gavin and Stacey" a few weeks back, maybe it's part of a series?

There is so much potential here to mention Mrs Slocombe's cat but I suspect it would be removed. Wink

my favourite line from the series is, as is obvious, my signature Very Happy However the series was always full of double meaning, and my second favourite Slocombe-ism would be when Cpt Peacock was beckoning Mrs S. to the centre of the shop floor and she was clearly very very annoyed...

'Captain Peacock, I think you should know that I do not respond to any man's finger...'

They just don't write them like that anymore Very Happy

AYBS is a show that could not be made today (there was the remake a couple of years ago which in all honesty wasn't funny at all). It was and still is an hilarious romp.

My favourite scene is the from the episode "Top Hat And Tails" where Mr Lucas and Mrs Slocombe are practicing ballroom dancing. The sequence with the mannequin's arm and Mrs Slocombe's face is a treasure (on a side note I have to give special kudos to Mollie Sugden who was a tremendous sport both in AYBS and its spin-off Grace and Favour.

I’d argue that the remake a couple of years ago just got it incredibly wrong and came across as taking the p out of the original. Department stores (that are remaining) have changed significantly; basing the idea around a current iteration of a field of make up, perfume and cosmetics counters could have been a good way to bring it up to date.
