I seem to remember a number of extremely good dramas from BBC Wales in the late 90s under Ruth Caleb's leadership: Trip Trap and Drover's Gold are two that stick out. I might suggest this was the beginning of the turnaround in BBC Wales' standing for drama production.

Yes, but then on the other hand they also did Jack of Hearts with Keith Allen which was shown on the night in 1999 when BBC1 famously got its lowest ever audience share. But in any case, if they're good, it doesn't matter where they're from.

Cheap national lotty gameshows, weakest link. Harderly decent telly, which have all been killed off. Then theres the trick of having production office in Glasgow.

Well, why don't BBC Scotland come up with some better ideas of their own anyway? In any case, the lottery quizzes gets about five million viewers and give Scotland a presence on Saturday nights all year round. The Weakest Link would have carried on in Scotland but Anne Robinson decided she'd had enoug, and she specifically said she would have stopped earlier but she liked the team in Glasgow and so carried on for longer. And they're still making the likes of Eggheads there. Then there's a load of sitcoms like Mrs Brown's Boys as well. As for the office in Glasgow, at least there's something in Glasgow, why not compare it to what's going on in Birmingham? It gets a much greater presence than most other parts of the UK.

And it's Scotland, not Mars. People outside Scotland have heard of it. If Kevin Bridges goes on Live At The Apollo, it doesn't make him less Scottish, does it, even though he's on a telly show filmed in England? And I don't believe that people in Scotland need to be bashed over the head with Scottishness every waking minute.
